So I asked myself, what is different? Why do these young people shoot up their schools? What had changed by Columbine? What exists today that didn't exist when we were screwed up teenagers? Columbine was in 1999. The Columbine shooters were documented social media users by 1996, including having blogs and dedicated web pages, associated with the video game Doom.
It's not guns. It's social media. For Harris and Klebold, it was AOL platforms and Doom.
I think the exposure and publicity by ALL media has a big effect.
The amount of air time and coverage a mass shooting and shooter gets is just mind boggling to me.
The way the media replays, focuses, and centers on these events and their perpetrator’s just plants a seed in the fertile mind of a copycat wanna be looking for their moment of fame.
If more time were spent showing the shooters that are taken out quickly and don't succeed it might instill worry and second guesses into the sick mind before the plan goes into effect.
Instead, those stories don't play along with media's agenda and get minutes and seconds compared to months and weeks’ worth of coverage.
According to the book" Freakonomics...The answer to everything".....When TV was first making it's way across the World...Wherever it went ...Crime increased
I think it's the same with the internet and Mass Murder.
