What's your realistic IDEAL high speed?

There are not many 21 Skaters with twins. I was lucky to ride in one. I wonder if it the same boat. It was sold from Jersey in the mid'90's to someone in the mid west. His name was Walter L. It was silly fast. I tested it at 119 just prior to the sale.

It dosen't matter! After a few days what ever speed your boat can go is not fast enough. I remember when I got my 35 Motion and it went 105 I was nervous the first couple of times out. I am still always looking to go faster. Even now I'm thinking of changing my gear ratio to mainly raise my cruise speed but wouldn't mind raising my top speed as well.

I just want to run 10-15 mph faster than the average guy so I can pull away from them, thats mostly cause I dont enjoy running next to boats I dont know. For me the magic number would be around 85, I can do it with my new mills.

Right now at 4,500 i'm running just under 120 mph with a 1:35.
Dropping to a 1:24 will bring to about 130 cruise.
Not that I actually cruise at that by any means but to be able to run 100 at 3,500 rpms and the engines not even working hard at all is pretty nice.

The question is relative to the boat.
Mine, 24 Pantera, low freeboard, 7' beam (about 6'6" at the transom)...
I think mid to upper 70's is about all the more I'd want to do in it.
I think Ironman had it in the low eighties at one time, and that just sounds a little scary to me in this boat.

I just want to run in water that is a little bit rougher than the average guy can run in. I will never see 80s without blowers but I should be able to do low 70s with 500+hp bbcs. (28 brave) Making the re-power decisions now for the upcoming season.

I'm just under 90 now in my 38 Fountain and would like for it to do 100+. But what is the fastest that I would want to go in a Vee? I took a test ride in a Donzi ZRC and went slightly over 100 and that felt pretty cool. The top speed of that ZRC or a 38 Fountain with 700's is about 110 - 115mph and right now that is about as fast as I would want to go, especially with my wife on board acting as a human governor.
But I'd probably be like everyone else and want more, but for now about 110 seems fast enough for me in any kind of boat.

I have a 1963 13' Boston Whaler with a 25hp Mercury and I am not sure how fast it runs. But, If I were to own another boat, it would be a 24' Speedboat with a single i/o engine setup and would run 70mph.

I would love a boat that would go 150 plus and cruise in the 120mph range at 4000rpm or so.
Preferably in a canopy boat with a 4 or 5 seat cockpit.
But I would also love to have a open top 41 Apache that would run 100 for those days when I am feeling like having some fun.
I compare it to having a 67 427 Tripower Vette and a new ZR1. Depending on the day.

For a V that's a nice place to be...with the cruise at 75.
In a cat you don't feel like your moving until 125.
