COLUMBUS, Ohio – Fans took to the streets after Ohio State's football championship victory early today, yelling and screaming in delight, setting nearly 90 fires and, in the case of a few, tearing down an Ohio Stadium goal post. A few injuries were reported.

Police made a handful of arrests after using tear gas and pepper spray to disperse crowds of Ohio State students and other fans following the Buckeyes' win.

Officers on foot, on horses and in cruisers patrolled the main drag through campus after midnight, when revelers spilled out of bars near the campus to celebrate the university's 42-20 win over Oregon near Dallas.

The fires involved trash bins, dumpsters and couches, and no injuries were reported, according to spokeswoman Battalion Chief Tracy Smith. Smith says the 89 reports started coming in just before 1 a.m., with the last reported about 4:45 a.m.

Thousands converged on the Ohio State football stadium, where police turned most of them away. Most headed back to the bar area, where cruisers lined the street and officers limited pedestrian and vehicular traffic.

Fans tore down a temporary goal post used for high school games on the south end of the Ohio Stadium field, said university spokesman Dan Hedman.

University police responded to various places in and around campus, including Ohio Stadium, the university's Mirror Lake -- a popular student gathering spot -- and the neighborhood north of campus, Hedman said.

WCMH-TV, showing images of revelers burning a couch, reported today that police arrested a handful of students who could face criminal and university charges.

Gunfire in the campus area after the game was reported by police dispatchers, with no reports of injuries, according to the Columbus Dispatch.

No problems were reported in Oregon.

Ok, A) Someone in Oregon reported something. That's a big state.
B) Thank God more OSU students are NOT from Ferguson Missouri. It would have gone on for way more than three hours.

Can't stop now. You will never get another chance to win a game against Oregon. The only place you'd ever see them again is in a championship game or bowl. And you'll be lucky to ever get that far again......:)

Ohio State fans wreak havoc

45 arrested in off-campus unrest

COLUMBUS - Rebekah Jay stood on her porch, hours after friends woke her up to warn her of the disturbance outside. She wasn't surprised.

Hundreds of students and others crowded 13th Avenue, three blocks from the Ohio State University campus, to watch what has become a pastime following big football victories: flipping and burning cars.

"There were tons of people all over. There was a mob just flipping over every car. They knew something was going to happen," the 18-year-old from Cleveland said. "This is a crazy street."

Crowds began getting more rowdy after midnight. At 12:45 a.m., officers used tear gas and wooden pellets known as "knee-knockers" to disperse a crowd of several hundred east of campus.

About 20 cars were damaged by fire or overturning, and at one time a pile of nine cars was burning, police said. The fires were so intense that a section of 13th Avenue buckled.

Ok, so Paul, heads up:
Winston plays for Florida State. They're the Seminoles.
"Florida" is the University of Florida. They are the Gators.
But there is also:
University of Central Florida
University of South Florida
University of Miami
Florida International University
University of North Florida
University of West Florida
Florida Gulf Coast University
and
Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton
