Stec as for your buying champions, what was the payroll of the Rays? Give me a break history shows that it does not work. Football is fantastic this year because we have so many teams that can make the playoffs it is anyones guess and you have to watch because you don't know what is up. I think that they do need a cap that means something. The tickets are insane money. While many people especially in NY and Boston are willing to pay the price of admision, many are not. The only reason that I have been to games lately is that I get them from David O. or other customers. If I had to pay... it is not worth it, stay at home and watch on the TV. Now you can not expect people in Kansas and so on to pay as much as people in NY and Boston are willing to pay, they do not make as much as we do. Average incomes are a lot lower so expecting them to pay 200 bucks for a so so ticket is unrealistic. Hell even when I get tickets free it costs over 200 bucks to go to a game with parking, beer, beer beer and hot dogs.

Injuries are costly. Last year Beckett stunk. Injured. He was the difference between winning and losing for you guys last year.

The Yanks had their share of flops. They make the playoffs every year except last year with all of our injuries.

Prices are all relative. If the owners invested as much as the Yanks, relatively speaking, they may have a better team and draw more fans. Instead they just crab and ***** about everything. Angels, Sox and Nationals have all offered 160 million plus for Texeira, could have been spent on CC or AJ, Yanks walked away from Johan last year.
 
We are finging out this year with the Pats all to well about injuries!! 10 starters out now, including the QB. They are still winning however. Of course they are not as good as they would be with out loosing these guys but never the less they are still ties for 1st place (technically at the bottom of the tie breaker no thanks for Buffalo for CHOKING!!)

Prices are relative and while there is a large group of peole in Boston and NY that will pay the 100 bucks for a ticket or over 2 grand to sit on the green monster or what ever stupidity that they get for those seats, that aint gona happen in Kansas even if they are in first place. The INSANE spending by NY, Boston, and others is just causing the payrolls to go out of site and make the game unobtainable to the average guy. Why is a guy that pitches 25 or so times a season, ussually 6-7 innings if you are lucky getting the money that they are. At leaste the football guys can get hit by other players and have thier carreers ended ala Brady, and so many others.

dare I say he is approaching Mattingly numbers? plus he is a switch hitter and a gold glove winner. This could be a bad year for everyone else....

The switch-hitter batted a combined .308 with 33 homers and 121 RBIs for the Atlanta Braves and Los Angeles Angels, who acquired him July 29.

That's not the point....the point is:

1. Overpaying the athletes is driving up the prices for the fans and is putting the game out of reach for many to attend a game.

2. The lack of parity makes it hard for some teams to compete...you live pretty close to KC; how many Royals games have you been too? And do you really think they could have afforded CC? They can't afford to pay the hot dog vendors. The fans lose interest after getting beat down for so many years...the fact is KC doesn't have the same revenue as NY and simply can't afford to spend as much. Good for the Yanks, but it's ruining the overall health of the game.

Majority of Yanks revenue comes ticket sales, sign good players and people will come. Royals blow. Thats why no one will go to the games. 25 years ago they were the tits. Bo Jackson, George Brett, Saberhagen.... C'mon Mr. Gun, you gotta have a better angle than that?

your angle is wrong, baseball has never been as popular as it is now.. yanks hit 4 mill last yr.. 4 mill... not every team shoudl win, not every team has a front office that gets it done.... if you win you will draw the numbers.. the rays has proven that, they have aslo proven that you can build and keep a team and win.... i understand about what your saying about over spending, but you cant only blame the yanks for this... what you call overspending i call building up your company.. this family chooses to not pocket the money and put it back into his organization.. something to be said for that.. and why should i feel bad that other teams are not run like the yankees... do you feel bad that you have worked so hard and have a 39 top gun, while i have nothing... no, you hipocrites cry about obama, but you want my team to share what they have... i dont like it... you want a world series, build one... the majority of great yankee teams are home grown, not bought... what you guys see as overspending, we teh fans see as a ownershipp that cares and wants to put a winner on the field....
 
It's not about socialism or competive business, it's about the sport...the entire basis of sport is predicated on fairness. I'm not complaining, the Cardinals won the series in 2006 on a significantly lower payroll than the Yanks. For the overall benefit of the sport the teams competing should have a similar base from which to compete from. The NFL model has proven successful, but not all teams have prospered due to poor management, player selection, etc. As an NFL fan I can't beef about the Giants or Cowboys having more money to hire the best players...instead I get to b!tch about the crappy Rams front office. Nor does the highest payroll guarantee a winner, the Yanks have proven that. The Yanks have the largest population base from which to draw, and the highest ticket prices, thus significantly more revenue at their dipsosal than do some other small market teams. The small market team may do everything right in drafting a player and developling him into an all star...only to loose him to a large market team at free agency. It is harder for them to compete, everything has to go perfectly, and it is frustrating for their fans thus they loose their fan base and the downward spiral continues. IMHO parity/revenue sharing (not the owners putting the money in thier pocket but sharing with all the players) is the best model for professional sports.

As a side note I find it interesting that both the new Yanks stadium and the new Shea will have a smaller capacity than the stadiums they are replacing. Not because they couldn't fill them but rather to reduce the seat supply and increase prices to increase their revenue.
 
Population doesnt cut it either. Remember the Yanks were bought in the 70s for 10 million and now worth well over a billion. That is amazing.

There are FAR more pro teams in NY than anywhere else. Mets Yanks Rangers Devils Ilses Knicks Giants Jets and may have missed a couple others. There are plenty of choices for the fans to go see and in the early 70s they couldnt give tickets away. George built the franchise and it was run unlike a business, it was all about winning at any costs. ie Bronx Zoo. Population can choose to go to any game and if you break down the amount of pro teams by the population of NY, there are several cities with comparable stats. Minneapolis for one. It isnt about population, The Yankee fans live breathe eat and sleep baseball. It is a baseball town. Bottom line is Denver or Dallas or Atlanta will ever be true die hard baseball towns. Those baseball franchises will never spend the amount of money it takes to win because they are afraid they wont recoup the money, George had the BALLS to go out and spend big bucks when the Yanks were the laughing stock of sports and turned the franchise around. Boston is another baseball town. Baltimore SHOULD be but Angelos is an idiot. They have the money and dont know what they are doing. Remember the Rangers signed A Rod to 252 million, not the Yanks.

St Louis is always one or two players away from the playoffs each year, I dont blame that on Money, it is blamed on management. Poor decisions. God knows the Yanks have had more than their share of flops! When we signed Pavano 4 years ago everyone went crazy and he blew, when the Mariners signed Beltre and Sexson, no one batted an eye and they both blew. Griffey in Cincy? Its all about management. The Yanks get blown out of proportion because of the media scrutiny.

Baltimore, Washington and Boston ALL bid more than 160 million for Teixeira, HE wanted to be a Yankee.

In the 90s the Braves couldnt fill the house in the PLAYOFFS! But they still had a monster payroll and survived.

Plus I believe you should get more money to play on the Yanks, maybe 10 - 15 percent more than if you play in say Atlanta. I would be willing to bet that if the Cards could have gotten CC for 15% less than what they Yanks paid, they would be smiling.
