What about a 46"? Brand new in a box - not sure what the Model number is - but I'll know when I get back in.

We also do repairs on plasmas (and more) I would recommend you look for a better brand - Pioneer, LG or Sony.
We repair SO many Samsungs - please take this as solid advice from someone in the business for over 30 years. Don't buy Samsung. It is cheap electronics. They have risen to their sales numbers because they (Samsung) spiff sales staff enormous amounts. THAT is why stores push the brand (Samsung). Stores make the highest profit and the sales staff gets bucks from the factory. Thus, you -the customer- is "sold".
Yeah - I know - they look great. Well a Bayliner is a nice boat IF you haven't been properly exposed to any other boats, chopped steak is good if you have never had a Porterhouse.
Most stores make the high profit sets look good and detune everything else.
Get the remote in your hands for ANY set and make them look they way you want - then compare. I guarantee you won't buy a Samsung.
As for a deal - we (dealers) might make $50 to $150 profit on avg. plasma or LCD TV sales. Go to a specialty store, pay a little more, and get exposed to some decent product and the specialty store will be able to set the set up to extract the best possible picture.
Also, WHY in heaven do you want an LCD?? Unless you have LOTS of reflective light or live on a mountain, you should get a plasma!!!! MUCh MUCH better picture!
Sounds like you have been shopping the electronic grocery stores and gotten their usual piss poor advice.
Please go to your local small specialists!!! You'll be properly advised and set up for your environment.

Ask you wife if she knows what a unbiased opinion is. Then tell her that the guys at the big stores are getting pay offs kind of like the mob to sell the crapier tv's. The crappy tv's can not stand on their own so they pay the sales guys to tell the poor customers that they are better then the more expensive TV's. Samsung for a while were very good, some of the best. They were tied in with Joe Cane and they were making some KILLER sets. Unfortunately over time they found that they could be more profitable if they cut corners and we are were we are.

Bill knows his chit. He has built his business on selling the best and providing the best services available. You just don't get that kind of personalized service from big box stores.

Pachanga in my experience from what I am told from my repair guy the Hitachies are one of the better sets for internal parts.

Most TV's are set up out of the box with the contrast levels cranked and the brightness turned way up. This is for trying to help sell the TV in a store. If you run your TV set up like this it will not last long. If you have the patience to do it yourself you can buy a disc called Video Essentials ( http://www.videoessentials.com/ ) This will get you set up perfectly. It takes some time and back and forth especially when you first get started. You will likely think that the picture is dark when you are done. Live with it for a while, all of the sudden you will start to see detail in images that you never saw before. You can also look for your local ISF (Imaging Science Foundation) calibrator and have them come over and do it for you. Prices for their service will cost you from 200 on up. This may sound like a lot but I have never had a TV blow that was properly calibrated. Taking that into account it is a bargain IMO.

Bill gave me a Video Essentials CD with the purchase of my last tv....Pioneer Elite rear projection. It was top of the line back in the day...
If our home inspection goes off tomorrow without a hitch I will be looking to upgrade at the new place. :sifone:
BTW, that CD not only helps you adjust the tv, but surround sound as well. Awesome tool!

I looked around and they are bringing anywhere from $1000 - $1400. they are Sony Bravias - not Samsungs. Both are brand new in the box - I was thinking I could get $750 from Ebay??

They sell it at stores. I got mine at Barnes and Nobels locally. I know that they sell it on their web site. They have two versions. Video Essentials and Digital video essentials. If you have a blue ray player then get the Digital video essentials.

You can get the (Joe Kane) HDTV Video Essentials Blu-Ray disc at Best Buy.
Everyone, listen to Audio and BillR, they are telling you the truth. I am a big HT hobby nut case and I will tell you to also get a plasma and to get a Pioneer. They last and last and give off the best picture in the industry.

Any time. Just take your time with the set up. It is VERY frustrating at first and while I KNOW that most of us on this site are the type that toss the instructions in the trash please take the time to watch the instructions on how to do it. There is a lot of back and forth with the setting in that one setting effects the others.... Again when you are done the picture will look dark but put a movie in that has a lot of dark scenes and check out all the detail in the blacks and you will see what we are talking abbout. Then you will look at your friends TV's and tell them the picture sucks
