Ya Gotta Love Michigan!

When I first read that comment, I thought it was awfully cynical. Then I hit the link and looked at the article...

A firefighters union official said Walling's layoffs were an open invitation to arsonists.

"The mayor painted a pretty appealing picture for them," said Mark Kovach, vice president of Flint Firefighters Union Local 352. He said the layoffs leave Flint with half the firefighters it needs to adequately do the job.

My understanding of arson is there are two distinct types of arsonists. Financially-motivated people and mentally ill people. I never realized that there was a group out there held back from torching vacant buildings only by the fact that there were ample firefighters available for a prompt response.

best thing that could happen there, save the taxpayers the cost of demoing, which they want to do anyway. just let em burn, i have never figured out why they put out those fires unless its to save neighboring houses. a pile of ash is a lot less to haul away than a half burned house, done plenty of those

Me CYNICAL...........no, no never! :sifone:

Firefighters make great arsonists and the article did note that the arsonist had experience/knew what they were doing.

dont underestimate the union mentality in MI. a couple years ago a local operators union BA was caught torching a non-union companies crane. FBI managed to get his fingerprints off the mountain dew bottle of gas that was tossed in the machine. never made the news though
