I'd gut out ALL That wood and replace it with some sort of cored panels, 1) it'll give you ample room to work in there. 2) you'll save 100+lbs. 3) It'll be a much better job than they did back in 83...
Jim for what it's worth last winter I replaced the deck panels in the cockpit of my cruiser. They were plywood and rotted out. I went with divinicell (spell?) type foam that we laminated on a big formica table with biax on both sides. You could not get me to use anything that grew in tree form as a core unless there is a good reason like an engine stringer. Unless there is a compression load like tightening a bolt the strength is in the glass anyhow. I go with FastDonzi. It was probably overkill but we used vinylester.
Jim , i thought i would post this for $hit's and giggles http://www.coosacomposites.com/nautical.html :seeya: Jim there is the Blue water and the Nautical series which is more economical as far as price goes .
Round 1 today. This is no fun doing it alone. I will be glad to get out of this forward section.
Its just about time to prep the next section. I will grind out the marglass that I tabbed it in with and mud in the next center section. I think I will mud in the next cross piece now I have I little more room so I can do the entire block at once.
