Steve1 Political Rants

It goes a little deeper than that, but you are on track. Cheney and the neo-Cons desperately wanted to gain the presidency and control of Congress to finally orchestrate disruption in the Middle East. He'd been a proponent of unprovoked invasion since serving in Nixon's Admin. George Sr. knew to contain Cheney and Rumsfeld with their constant cries to finish the job in Iraq.

So when the 2000 election campaign was gearing up, W approached Cheney to help vet a VP candidate. Cheney, knowing he could use W's weak-mindedness to his advantage, suggested he would serve as VP.

Once 9/11 hit, which was NOT orchestrated by the CIA or government as many conspiracy theorists assert, Cheney and the neo-Cons realized this was an opportunity to paint the entire Middle East with the same extremist brush as al-Queda. Normally, a rational president wouldn't unilaterally invade a sovereign nation unprovoked and on shaky data, but with Cheney and the neo-cons feeding him a bunch of aggressive data and with W's longstanding belief that Saddam needed to suffer for his attempt on Daddy's life, W just needed to get enough data to make his case and he'd be all for it. Hence, the miraculous discovery of the "Downing Street Memo." The author of which committed suicide once he realized the US was actually going to base the legitimacy of the invasion on his BS memo.

So there you have it, a political tragedy ripped right from the subtext of the Star Wars saga.

Unfortunately, the galactic sized gambled failed primarily due to a hastily conceived post-invasion plan, Rumsfeld's utter incompetence which Cheney was worried about from day 1 and the Congressional Republicans who spent like drunken lottery winners trying to distract their constituents from the growing problem brewing with their foreign policy.

Nice little soap opera story line there. For an independent you sure have bought the way lefty line on the war:rolleyes: There are so many disparate reasons we went into Iraq, and this explanation is too simplistic. End result however is that we have a fairly stable Iraq and thousands of wannabe jihadists are now enjoying their virgin pigs. Just to go with your whole Star Wars/Darth Cheney theme though I will say this. I think one of the reasons they did what they did was to open a shooting gallery. They spread some bait (our soldiers), drew in the prey (jihadi aholes) and then let loose, way better to have them come to you than chasing their sheepballing butts all over the middle East. Although the loss of any soldier's life is a bad thing, the concentration of effort in one place likely saved more lives than it cost, we'll never know.

Ted Nice, there are close to 31 Million people in Iraq that were freed from a Mass Murdering tyrant and his sons.

I guess the definition of 'stable' is open to interpretation.

We'll find out soon enough, I imagine, if we stick to the timelines. Recent signs aren't very encouraging, but we need to be out of there. If a civil war ensues after we leave we shouldn't continue to play policeman there. Regardless of the fact that we created the mess with a wretched (non-existant) plan. (thanks, Rummy!)

Nice synopsis, Jon.

yea, yea, always those leftys fault. bush/cheney how many yrs to atleast get that ONE thing DONE !!!

my point is left, right, dem, or rep its all a big scam to screw the normal worker.

as for your war theory, agian that to me is complete bull. drive across I-10 in texas, new mexico or AZ and then tell how the war in afghanistan is helping truely make us more secure ?

80% or more of the fighting is from people that just dont want us there. PERIOD. you could use the analogy like in the movie RED DAWN (great movie of the day). the Commies invade us and we fight back cause we dont wont them here.

you really think that the normal iraqi or afghan civilian is happy with what we've done. I'll agree with your point that Iraq's Saddam was a bad person, but where was the threat?

same in afghan, we over threw the Taliban, who is not al-quadi, and then turned that country over to a corrupt dictator.

go figure

Yeah Juanita Broaddrick for one! Where have you been ?His disbarment, the Paula Jones affair and the impeachment, what was that about? Classy Guy there and 9/11 in his resume.

ok Rudy Giuliani, when was 9/11? who was president ?

come on, next you'll tell me Ms Palin is a smart person and would be a good political leader

Steve

I respect your enthusiasm. Passionate to say the least.

You dont need to make your points using BS half truths .

You are getting close to sounding like the Dog Basher which you needn't.

Dude I would be the first one to vote pulling out of Korea and placing those troops on the border here..That border issue caused this problem we have in DC now.

The Taliban were helping AQ My problem here is if you go into a operation like this do it 100%

Saddam aside from supporting Terrorism and Paying terrorists Having the training Camps there for these Savages ,He would have resumed his Weapons Programs soon sanctions were gone and there is linkages with him and AQ.

S H was actually a calming force over there, keeping the lid on 4-5 warring groups.
He got to do with them what we arent allowed to do....give them what they deserve if they dont stay in line.
With him around you had one Ahole to keep track of, now you need eyes in the back of your head to figure out who is going to blow your brains out.

What half truth?

50% of everything you put up here is broadstroke generalizations and BS.

The other half obviously comes from someone that pays attention and knows some history.

If you stuck to that and promised not to post a photoshopped pic degrading your president maybe we could get 10 or so guys on here to go at it one night and have some good discussion.

But like I said, I applaud your enthusiasm.

LOL No! But Look I appreciate Critique and he is not my President maybe Rev Wrights Man in Washington the Wright kind of racist!

Yeah Juanita Broaddrick for one! Where have you been ?

I have been researching to see wtf you are talking about. I had never heard of a conviction. So I had to go see.

Come to find out, Ms. Broaddrick filed a sworn affidavit in 1997 with Paula Jones' lawyers denying that Clinton had ever assaulted her: "During the 1992 Presidential campaign there were unfounded rumors and stories circulated that Mr. Clinton had made unwelcome sexual advances toward me in the late seventies. ... These allegations are untrue ...."

Then, in 1998 she went on Dateline and claimed that she was assaulted in 1978. Broaddrick recanted her earlier sworn statement when interviewed by the FBI about the Jones case; the FBI found her account inconclusive, and the affidavit denying the allegations remains her only sworn testimony.
No legal action, civil or criminal, was taken against Clinton or Broaddrick based on the allegation. Broaddrick was never called as a witness during President Clinton's impeachment proceedings in January 1999.

If you are going to reach back 32 years for some of your rhetoric Steve, can you at least say "alleged?"

The only thing worse for the republican party than raving lunatics spewing hate speech is raving lunatics spewing innuendo.

Heck, if you want to dig into Clinton's closet... you could have done a heck of a lot better than that. After all... they killed like 45 people, right? ;)
