Would have been difficult explaining why you had to defend yourself with a gun from someone with 2 broken arms.

My attorney would have no problem showing that this individual had a history of drug abuse and violence based on this, and there were several witness in surrounding vehicles that saw the whole thing unfold. He cut many of them off trying to swerve in front of me, and many of them were trying to block him from doing so. His behavior was already clearly erratic and dangerous to not only myself but other drivers as well. Wonder how many stars he would have rung on his post-mortem tox screen ...

You dont know he was a drug addict. And you dont know he suffered 2 broken arms from previous "incidents".
For all you know he broke his arms by saving a little old lady in a burning building.

The chances of your life turning into a clusterfck is increased more by what you are doing than anything else.

But yes, based on 22 years in Emergency Medicine, I do know that the guy was juiced. Have you ever seen anyone high on PCP ...? It is unbelievable what they are capable of.

If the guy was able to break out the window in the locked door of my vehicle with his two broken arms, I think that would have been proof enough that he was a violent threat. The line I had drawn was the step/running board on the cab of the truck ...

I had also stopped at least 50-60 feet behind him as this unfolded and couldn't back up or retreat as I have an obligation to show attempts at before using force.

Collinsville is pretty quiet but it is only a couple exits from East ST. Louis and its not so quiet. That's not the point. There are bad people in every neighborhood, even yours, and I prefer to be able to defend myself and my family if necessary.

A few months ago, my GF's daughter hit the emergency call button on her cell while she was sleeping and it took 51 minutes from the time she called before I got a knock on the door from the Sheriff's dept. Thank god it wasn't an emergency, but How would you bide you time if there was a rapist or killer in your daughters room for the 51 minutes before help arrived?

Adding a gun to the equation makes it even worse.

I concentrate on prevention like locked doors etc.

I just feel there is more risk of an unfortunate incident with any loaded gun around than if not.Having it mishandled by someone whether it be your GF if she was alone or a visiting teenager the girl has visiting or whatever would make me nervous.

(I have not been there) & 2, shall I say "South of the border types" came across the street & beat the Chit out of him! If he had a gun, maybe he could have helped himself & possibly many future other victims that these scumbags will prolly B bang'n on!! They R on the street as far as anybody knows!!

Locked and loaded my wife has been taught how to shoot and handle the gun. My son is not born yet but he will learn how to shoot and handle guns. If he has a visitor he will know not to touch the guns which will be locked up when I am not home. God help you if the dog wakes me and you are breaking in.

Where in Houston? I live just outside of downtown. You can have a few million dollar homes and a block away its the barrio.

I'm not sure as I said have not been there. He said where he & his wife R that they have 4 cop cars 24 hours aday( if I understood him correctly) dedicated 2 this smaller neighborhood?????????? Just looked his address up & it is Merlin St, Houston!!

But I hear your point.

I try not to think of things like that either, but they do happen. Just like the gun accidents that you speak of. We can go back and forth for days with statistics to back up each of our sides. That being said, Both of the girls can handle a gun better than most guys I know. They shoot with me at LEAST twice a month, and the GF is going to start shooting IDPA this spring.

I respect your decision to not have guns in your house. My problem is that most anti-gunners don't afford me the same respect to make the decision myself.

You're right, and that's a good thing. One of reasons the odds are so small that anyone will actually shoot someone is the deterrent effect of a gun. I would much prefer to have a "bad guy" run off when confronted in my house with a gun than to shoot him. It saves alot of paper work.:sifone:
