some good points

Every one of you gun nuts that talk about using this or that on someone would sh!t your pants if you ever had to point it at someone and pull the trigger.

If you live in a neighbourhood where you think there is risk, get a better job and move.

I suggest the turd making a mark on your underwear would drown out your shotgun racking a shell.

The pump racking the shell is louder.....:sifone:

There is some risk in all neighborhoods. Just some are a lot smaller.

There's risk in every neighborhood. It doesn't matter how much your house costs. I rarely lock my doors but I still have loaded guns. Round in the chamber as well. The night stand gun is cocked and locked like it should be.

I'd rethink the locking of doors part :leaving:

I agree with Chris on the Shotgun, double barrel point and shoot, then a Revolver no safeties involved even in the Grit of the glass shop taped to my leg it works every time, Good Ole American Knowhow and technology Got to love it.

"Disclaimer I have heard other versions of this but all about the same!"

For those that don't know him, Major General Peter Cosgrove is an 'Australian treasure!'
General Cosgrove was interviewed on the radio recently. You'll love his reply to the lady who
interviewed him concerning guns and children. Regardless of how you feel about gun laws
you gotta love this! This is one of the best comeback lines of all time. It is a portion of an ABC interview between a female broadcaster and General Cosgrove who was about to sponsor a
Boy Scout Troop visiting his military headquarters.

FEMALE INTERVIEWER:
So, General Cosgrove, what things are you going to teach these young boys when they visit your base?

GENERAL COSGROVE:
We're going to teach them climbing, canoeing, archery and shooting.

FEMALE INTERVIEWER:
Shooting! That's a bit irresponsible, isn't it?

GENERAL COSGROVE:
I don't see why, they'll be properly supervised on the rifle range.

FEMALE INTERVIEWER:
Don't you admit that this is a terribly dangerous activity to be teaching children?

GENERAL COSGROVE:
I don't see how. We will be teaching them proper rifle discipline before they even touch a firearm.

FEMALE INTERVIEWER:
But you're equipping them to become violent killers.

GENERAL COSGROVE:
Well, Ma'am, you're equipped to be a prostitute, but you're not one, are you?

The radio went silent and the interview ended.

In Canada it would be rare for a perp to have a gun? Or am I wrong?

Nope....They all have them and use them.
Most of gun related crime in Toronto is gang/drug related bad guy verses badguy.
Automatic pistols mostly.

I dont have to tell you who most of the crime is caused by.

I guess "Gun free home" signs would be a good business then! I like the sign I saw "We do not call 911"

I live in a great neighborhood and have a great job. I still like to defend my family and home no matter what. If you havent heard about the Petit family rapes and murders in Cheshire CT in 2007 you should look into it. Rich doctor, great family, nice safe town....didn't matter. the wife and two young daughters raped and burned alive.I am not a gun nut,I am a gun enthusiast that owns over 25 pistols and rifles. Yes,I may poop my pants when I have to use a gun in defense but I know I wont go down without a fight. poopy pants is better than having no brains left after a 12ga.!!!!

The chances of any of you having to use any of those weapons to protect your families is demonstrably outweighed by them falling into the wrong hands by someone taking them while you arent there.

But..whatever makes you feel like the "Protector".

God help any of you that has a tipsy teenager thats sneaking in from a late night in the dark.

They'd have to get past the alarm and the safe.

I'm calling BS on this one.

After working in Emergency rooms for over 22 years, I have seen what people are willing to do when they need a fix and what they are capable of when wacked out on PCP, cocaine, and methamphetamine. I have seen the results of violent crimes against innocent victims over and over again, and a I am fully capable of determining the seriousness of a threat.

I have a good job, live in a nice quiet neighborhood, and have a 870 and several other items nearby if ever needed. I would not hesitate if my life or that of my family, friend, neighbor, or loves ones was being threatened.

As a Delta force-trained friend once advised "forget center mass ... shoot 'em in the head, they're dead".

Hopefully you are never put in that position.
The chances are so miniscule I'm sure you'll be OK.

One time I was confronted by a crack-head in road rage incident while driving a moving truck through Kansas City on my way to Vegas. He stopped in front of me on a bridge with construction closure down to only one lane. I couldn't turn off, couldn't back up, and literally I had no way to escape. The guy already had two broken arms in casts from other incidents and got out of his car threatening me. The 9mm was chambered and safety disengaged. I had a line drawn where once crossed I would consider my life to be in jeopardy, and I prayed to God that I not have to shoot him. Fortunately for both of us, he got back in his car.

At the next exit, I signalled to get off and he took the ramp ahead of me. After he made it past the point of no return, I continued on staight. He was pissed and screaming, gesturing, and hanging out the window shaking his fist at me as I drove off.

And yes, I do have carry permits valid in all but 4 states so I was a legal law-abiding citizen and a christian. I do still pray that I never have to make the call ...

Glad it worked out for you.
Would have been difficult explaining why you had to defend yourself with a gun from someone with 2 broken arms.
