Could someone explain this website to me?

I have decided I'm finally interested in building a website for my shop. I went to Go Daddy to see if the name I was interested in was taken and it was. The name of my company is Pro Trucks. The obvious choice for the website would be protrucks.com.

Here's the current link to that site. http://www.protrucks.com/

I may be interested in purchasing the domain name if the price is right. I would like to know what the site currently is. It just brings up a bunch of other links. Doesn't make any sense to me.

Anyone wanna take a look at it and see if they can make sense of it?

usually someone just buys a sh*tload of names, (we even had this sites name offered to us) for the sole reason of making a buck (:sifone:) off of it when someone wanted it.

Someone owns the URL and they have it parked. They put up a page and they're participating in an affilate referral program. So the owner of the URL and page gets a few pennies every time someone visits his page and clicks through on one of those links. If you had thousands of URL's and got tens of thousands of clicks a day, day after day, year after year, it might amount to some money. Is the site listed for sale by GoDaddy?

Right. That looks like a placeholder page. It appears that your name is available.

Delete this thread before one of these nice people buys your name and tries to sell it to you. ;)

The person that owns that domain gets paid when you go to that site and then click on one of their links. They want one of the owners of those other links to see how much traffic they forward them so they will buy them so they are the only ones that traffic gets forwarded to.

We will contact you if there is an interest in your offer. Thank you.

sh!t John. I'd almost dare someone to buy bucks name and then try to hold it ransome. Now that would be fun for us:sifone:

pro-trucks.net is also available

bucksprotrucks.com

there are lots of options without paying a premium

be carefull with that name... you want something someone can possibly remember/ google etc. your very close to protruck.com which is an established site that has been around a long time and is well known in the desert circles....

You guys are cracking me up. You can definitely tell it's winter.

Thanks for the info. That makes more sense to me now.

As for buying protrucks.net for $2,088, that's substantially more than I intend to spend.

If the owner of protrucks.com thinks he's sitting on a gold mine he will be sadly disappointed by my offer.

At least this gives me an idea of where I need to go with it.

don't sit around thinking too long, it's better to grab 5 or 6 names then decide which one you want to build, the others can be let go or auto-forwarded to the one you decide on.

One of the names I let go in the 90's is now my main competitor. If the name works or may work grab it.

Buck-

I'll shoot him an offer for around $250.

A week from now, you shoot him an offer for around $650 and he will be so happy to see that he'll jump on it!

I would suggest contacting him directly and cutting out the middleman.

The shill thing is cute, but with the millions of registered domains out there, I doubt he gets offers every day. Two in a week only tells him someone wants it.

Being so close to that protruck domain makes it valuable. You can't imagine how many mis-spelled and extra-letter URL's are registered and either doing thhe same as this URL is doing or are competitive to the real site. I hit one last week by hitting an extra key (big fingers) and got a site that looked just like what I wanted.
