Sony PS3 plus Netflix

Save the $50 and get an external harddrive when you need it. You can also stream movies and music from your pc to the ps3 or just copy them over.

You do not have to copy them over. For it to work well you will need windows 7. Windows media allows for some shared content. So for example:

If you DVR a tv show on your Media Center you can watch it back on the TV with the PS3 or more accuratly your "extender". This works on most content as long as it is not copy protected (most stuff is not except for HBO and Showtime). If you rip a movie to your hard drive you will be able to search the movies and play them back as well. Some very cool stuff. If you look for Catastrophy's link from I think two weeks ago I have a few links up about this set up.

FYI downloadable HD content is WAY lower picture density then Blue Ray. I don't think they should be able to call it HD because it has lower density then DVD! So if you want high quality then you still have to buy/rent the blue ray disc.

Or you can just get a program like NERO that will work with xp, vista, etc. and just set-up a media server. Very easy to do, I can post a write up if you want.

A-B not sure if I understand what you are talking about correctly but:

If you are trying to record or use Media Center for DVRing and a lot of syncing to X-boxes.... then you need Windows 7. Earlier versions of MC did not work with cable and media sharing.

If you are talking about syncing muic then yes there are a number of ways you can do this.

I am only talking about streaming content (movies, music, pictures, etc) from your PC to your PS3 via a media server.

Have Media Center but never use it, I find NERO to be much easier to work with and can be used with most versions of Windows.

A-B do you mind giving me a call? I would like to get some info from you on this stuff.

Thanks
