At what point should people have to buy two plane tickets?

I believe most airlines have a policy of fitting between the arm rests which are 17 inch apart. I thought at one time the airlines had a weight restriction of 180 pounds a second ticket had to be bought.

So how big is too big? I'm 6' 4" 250lbs and can fit between the arm rest but my shoulders will be in the isle or if I'm in a window seat leaning on the person next to me.

Its not that difficult to figure out. dedicate the first 2 rows to passengers of girth with wider seats, instead of 3 per row make 2 wider ones. if they arent in use for the flight make it an upgrade for a reg passenger to have more room. kind of like a business class have a fat class.

That would be discrimination........lawyers would own their jets!

Problem with that is that you are essentially rewarding obesity by giving them more room and not cramming them in like sardines like normal sized people have to do.


And then to charge more to a normal sized person almost seems like you are descriminating against normal sized people by making them pay more to be comfortable.....

personally I think that in a situation like a plane...your basically buying/renting the space for one person, if your twice the size of the normal person and your taking the space of two people you should pay twice as much.

I used to travel for work and I seemed to get stuck by a fatty every 4th trip. It just plains stinks!:ack2:

When I see a kid, skinny guy or little old lady heading for the seat next to me, I want to hug them. In the last month I got a guy that made me look like a small child (not fat but big) an 350lb teenager with a newborn and vicious body odor and a woman significantly larger than me- to the point that I checked for an adam's apple.

They have larger seats at the front of the plane it is called first class. If they don't fit then I want them at the back of the plane next to the ****ter so that I do not have to climb over them them when we crash! Since over 50% of americans are now "obese" then they would have to dedicate about 70% of the plane to these seats.

A couple years ago, my wife was dropping me off at Newark Airport for a business trip. While we were at the curb out in front of the terminal, this wack job with a 5 foot tall bird puppet goes walking by...walking his puppet the whole time and talking to it.

I bet my wife 20 bucks that he'd not only be on my flight, but be sitting near me. I won the bet - he had the seat right next to me.

They can't get it past me if I am on the aisle.
I can't fly coach.
It's the leg length. The length from my hip to my kneecap exceeds the distance between the back of my seat and the bar in the top of the seat-back pouch in front of me by more than two inches. I fly first class whenever I can. If I can't fly FC, I fly emergency row. If I can't do that... I have to drive or not go.

Ok, I am a big guy. I do fit between the arm rests! That being said, there aren't too many guys I met at the SOS party in Key West who comfortably fit in a 17" wide seat. The airlines are really squeezing in as many people as they can and not considering people's comfort. I would pay more for a bigger seat and don't see anything wrong with offering it. Flight to Miami:
Coach: $300
First class: $1200
Why shouldn't there be a comfortable coach seat option for $450 ($450 x 4 = $300 x 6) Cost per row would remain the same!

When you are 6'3" there are very few comfortable coach seats. I am so glad that I get to send other people on business flights rather than myself anymore.
