Unvented natural gas space heaters

FWIW unvented appliences are illegal in Canada.....period.

should tell you something

From someone who's in the industry the whole thought of it kind of creeps me out actually.

Yea, tells us how stupid Canadians are......................again! :biggrinjester::biggrinjester::biggrinjester:

ok i see that these things may not be great for the home but how about the garage

I put a vented Gas radiant heater in one of my houses .
The home owner washed his car almost every day inside all through the winter . The walls were dripping wet . I had an HRV (by Vanee )installed and it pretty much got things back under control .
But if your looking at heat in your garage venting should be very easy .
Why not just do it right and not take any chances ?

Thanks for all the input.

Another question.

The gas stove and oven in my kitchen and millions of others burn natural gas in open air, in many cases for hrs each day, unvented.

How is that not causing a problem but there seems to be concerns about heaters that at least try to control the emissions.

If you read your manual/installation instructions for your gas range you will find that venting of the flue products to the outdoors by means of a mechanical range hood or other means anytime the appliance is in operation "is highly recommended"

When I was a serviceman on the road for the local gas utility guess what our busiest day of the year was for responding to residential CO alarms going off ???.......Thanksgiving.....you could count on it......every burner and the oven on the gas range blasting and the occupants either not turning the range hood on or not having one at all (in the case of an elect to gas conversion) unvented, a residential gas range is quite capable of hurting you.

I have a ventless in the garage for occasional use(those cold winter nights when the sleds need fixing) and yes the windows to sweat a bit, when in use about once an hour I crack the garage door for a second or two.

i have an old wood house with pine interior with a vent free fireplace it works very well and does add a bit of moisture thats needed in the winter here when its below zero the windows will fog up but other than that its heats the entire place you do need a fan on top to move air around the co detector has never gone off

no place to vent there is house above the garage

House above the garage is fine. I don't remember the exact dimensions but I think it is 30" to the nearest windows.

In Germany they approved unvented heaters some 70 yrs ago.:sifone:

And by doing right get a heat pump and put floor warming...with proper venting.
That way a garage or any shop will have no moisture issues plus the heating needed will be 2/3´s thats needed compared to conventional heatings.

Works wonders in houses too as a all you need heater or cooling system (goes both ways once you set the temp).

Vice Versa actually...look who´s having the last laugh.. not the one who died in monoxide when the safety measures failed.

*Ignorance is a bliss and yes I have many times laughed at US and continental European housing heaters and builds.
I mean have a heater in the middle of somewhere and freeze your ass of in other places..too funny.
I´d rather have it comfy and efficient.

Moisture needed in a wooden house.... ever measured the air quality ?
That´s a first and I´ve lived all my youth in a big wooden house with 5 fireplaces...
My parents live as we speak in one too at 4500 sqft built in the late 19th century.

not sure i understand

You do not have to vent out the roof you can go out the side wall. Just make sure there is not a header that you are going through. Just make sure you flash over the top of the vent. I see all the time they are put in with no flashing just relying on silicone.....:(
