They were a bunch of idiots. JC & Mark were in the water the entire time helping the divers, and Mark's niece on the dock helping as well.
Everyone is OK. Yeah the boat was completely under at one point when at the crane. I still don't know what Tow Boat was thinking with putting the line on the deck cleat, that's when they pulled it over and stared going down, that's what caused the problem with trying to get the straps on the back hooks.
That's a bummer, it really is a shame about the salvage fees that VA and Sea Tow are allowed to charge people. Glad to hear that everybody was ok though.
I was running the boat.We were in the right of way to the pin before we got chopped. It was either crash into another boat or try and avoid a collision. We gambled and slid into the turn and it bit and rolled.End of story.:ack2:
you should have seen the ruckas a few years ago when a salvage company tried to comadeer a sunken Pantara that Pepe had rolled at KEy West
It took over an hour and a half to get them off the boat (Under water) Race Officials , Coast Gaurd , OSO Steve were all involved and the salvage company was calling it their property. This is while the race was going on We were circling the whole thing in our Top Gun It got nasty
These guys on the water think it is a free for all even at a race

Do you have any pics of the accident?
I don't have anything, I heard that somebody had a video of the accident, I would love to see it.
My memory of the accident is not too clear.
Thank you,
pepe @ pantera boats.
When the races are near my house, I plan to volunteer my boat for official towing. Maybe they'll let me fly some official "mount me" flag. But if I can do something to save the teams some money, so be it.

I saw them tow in "All Jack'd Up" and was wondering the same thing about the cost. They were haging around while the boat was being put on the trailer. Putting the bill together I am sure. If someone was to help you can you tell them to go away and if you have Tow Boat or Boat US cards can they bill you at all? That salvage thing is a bunch of BS. It's almost like you have to have a gun on the boat.

I know from talking with my buddy with the dive rescue team that it is a very touchy situation/was a very touchy situation down there. Geico was allowed to assist the Aquamania boat in but was kind of pushed away after that and the tow companies there hit them at around $100/ft to tow plus he said they can add on for distance, extras, etc. Not to mention they don't really give a crap what happens to the boat in the meantime during the tow!! Geico team was showing their typical professionalism which seems to be damn consistent on the circuit. Thumbs up to them again and the divers who kept everyone safe and without any serious injuries.BTW, the majority of these rules/restrictions are set forth by the coordinator of the race and it is something set in advance so it is not as if people didn't want to be more helpful but I think it comes down to liability and such. Anyway, my .02

Maybe that's why they helped when Aquamania flipped (not during a race) but couldn't tow in Hard Rock?
If it is agreed upon before the race, there should also be an agreed upon price where they can not claim salvage. Is that the way that it works, or can any tow service come in and "sit and wait"?
