California just needs to sink into the Pacific...

California Decision Could Limit HDTV Choices Nationwide

On Nov. 18 the California Energy Commission is scheduled to vote on a proposal that would require retailers by 2011 to limit sales of TV sets to those that consume about a third less power than they do today.

Since the public hearing on Oct. 3, industry groups have turned up the volume in opposition to the new guidelines. If passed, the best value in home theater HDTVs will disappear from California shelves and, some analysts figure, will ultimately cut consumer choices across the country.

We really should just give it back to Mexico....

Would Arnold be the Governato instead of the Governator then??:sifone:

CA sucks... What happens there ends up happening to all of us.

A month ago I just bought a 40" Sony "Eco Series" LCD and its as good of a picture as you can get in the price range. KDL-40VE5 is the model- reduces power by 50% and only uses about 90W

Automakers built California-only cars for years.

The marketplace will drive this. And if some manufacturer can capitalize on the fact that the other 49 states have different needs and wants, they will.

California has some unique issues. Obviously they have a large amount of people in a small area. But their pollution problems are greatly exacerbated by the fact that the wind blows at them out of the west and they have big mountains east of them. That stalls their pollution over top. The other one is energy conservation. They don't have coal, they don't want nuke and the water they are using now to irrigate their deserts for farming is pulling away from their hydro generation.

California's problems are their own.

Agreed!

Wait, if we get kicked out of the union, that means no more Obama right? I mean were still stuck with the same local dickheads, but no more of the federal BS... Kick away boys, kick away... :sifone:

Ya but you get to keep Pelosi!!!

IMO this is not going to be a HUGE problem. Most manufacturers are seeing that the "green" movement has huge momentum and that people are willing to pay more for "green" equipment. Manufacturers will addapt to this quickly and it will all be good. You can bet you azz it will drive up the cost of sets however as that is one of the big differences between cheap sets and expensive ones (the quaility fo the power supply).

I agree with Dude, If we leave you all can have Obama and his bullsheet. I would rather put up with the crazy sierra club idiots than Obama

I actually think that California is on the right track with this one, there is no good reason to build tv's that consume more power than an lcd flat screen.

TV's often stay on 24/7 in some homes.

Plasma tv's use more power than some appliances such as a refrigerator. Definitely a step in the wrong direction

Energy wasteful appliances are a double edged sword during the summer season as they add to the thermal load of the AC which in turn is going to cost more.
