Pics popped up on the Boating Gone Wrong thread a few weeks ago. Apparently, this boat once belonged to Jim Darr.

This boat was here in Clear Lake Texas parked on a trailer by my marina. I know the owner. Boat never ran right and blew a couple of the engines shortly after he got it. I saw it before the fire and it was very rough under the wrap. The story I got was someone tried to steal the radio and electronic equipment out of it and shorted out the wiring causing the fire. It burned on the trailer. I saw it after the fire. I got that from a pretty reliable source.

Before scrolling down the thread, my first thought was some garage junkie tried to hook up a system and crossed wires. Whatever the real story it, it's a shame to see it go to waste.

The owner is a stand up guy. He has lots of money. I don't think it happened that way. Just my opinion. It was a 50. And I know he had the engines repaired before the fire. Never heard anything from the local PD saying otherwise. You never know.

If the boat was sitting, what are the chances the batteries had enough juice to start a fire? If it was hooked to shore power then there wouldn't be an issue but with batteries on an old boat I makes me suspicious especially if they were left on (most people store the boats with batteries switched off, but if left on they definitely would be dead in a few days).

Sad to see any boat go down like that.

But... I believe there was some of dat good ol wiggler kaarma floating around it.

everybody relax, It was a 50 Nortech , The previous owner traded it for my newer 50, the boat was kept very nice by Steve,Steve had an open checkbook on this boat. He spent 20k on the stereo and had it professionally installed, the boat ran great, . The new owner was a very well off nice guy who got a great deal, the motors were innovation 650's and were rebuilt not blown up. boat went to lake Travis. the boat had the stereo and electronics stolen and tampered with when it caught fire, nothing to do with the boat, again a bunch of people commenting without knowing the facts.
