Hustler's ads against Cigarette and STATEMENT!!

And another thing....

Statement should have boats ready to deliver to sales made all year during the "world tour" wtf is going on with that. I would think 4-6 would be realistic (worldwide) and I'm hearing ZERO. It's def not the boat. So what the deal?

Nope, I don't buy the reasons why. There are lots of lakes and fair-weather boaters (even though I can't speak first-hand about the boat in the rough). There's plenty of money around for THAT boat.

Try again.........

Most guys buying $800K boats are going to buy another on in a couple years. They don't typically run them into the ground and dump $$ into restos. They get whatever's new and cool. And they want something salable. Same problem with the Liquid Technologies boat. Very cool, but different. And just the one. It sold without power for about $20K on Ebay. Less than the cost of the paint job.

Keep in mind, I'm talking "enthusiasts". There are all sorts of exotics sitting on the backs of motor yachts all over the world. Many Eurpoean boats.

The Liq technologies boat was VERY diff. Personally it was a duplicate of a 42 Fountain PR built out of aluminum. Just strange.

The Statement boat is diff but not in a strange way. It's diff in a cool way. Makes all the diff in the world. Speaking from 15 years experience in the sales of hi=perf boats.... there's customers out there for that boat that don't know they want/need it. Does anyone actually have any numbers on how many (if any) are ordered??

I'm curious if the fact that they are SUCH a new company, is making the slim field of buyers nervous about putting down such an amount of money to a company with no history, or "business" track record of any kind? They have no dealer that I know of that could be used as a buffer, or to insure they're going to get a boat or their money back.

Also, even when boats were selling much more consistently, there haven't ever been many people that enjoy being the "first" one to build, or own a new model. Being the first to own a boat of ANY KIND from a NEW company, is a HUGE gamble on someones' investment down the road. I would personally NEVER want to write the first $800k check to a company that may not be around in 12 months. A low priced center console or something would be different, but definitely not a 3/4 million dollar pink elephant.

Examples just off of the top of my head of this, would be the Chief boat, The Dragon, the single step Top Guns, even that Nortech 80 footer as pretty as it is, is quite a "risk" to the first guy that bought one.

Also, I think the Statement has such a similar look to the OL GTX models, that their potential buyers are split between buying a new Statement, or one of many super clean used GTX's that have nice discounts?

Just speculating.

Bill, ask Chip Fendt what the business plan is. I think that should clear things up.

Remember, companies like OL, Hustler, Nortech weren't born overnight... Matter of fact, the very first 37' OL was up the river from me.... The owner, a very wealthy businessman on wallstreet took a few guys who had cig's, Apache's and other well known boats of that era out for a ride and believe it or not they all gave the boat a big thumbs down....

Fast forward a decade and those same guys own OuterLimits! ;)

Also, a select few OL buyers here in the NY/NJ/CT area took a chance on OL and everyone saw what they could do and the company took off like wildfire!

A lot of buyers who got into the experimental boats in the infancy of these companies got the boats almost at cost and had some stake in the company.... ;)

Just a suggestion...

That would sure make the decision more enticing for someone, depending on the type of boat, and how many they need to build to keep moving forward.

Which experimental companies that are using this method would you use as examples? I'm only curious, because the only experimental offshore powerboat company of the last 5 or so years I can think of that's still around, IS Statement? Dragon, Chief, & even Saber, have all pretty much run their courses? When you say "a lot" of buyers are/were getting this "opportunity", it REALLY makes me feel like I'm forgetting some big ones? Getting an $800k boat at cost, that I'll just say "could" be $3-$400k, is still a big roll of the dice, in hopes that if thinkgs didn't work out, you could still recoup 50% or so of that price on resale?

Mystic is about the only "new" company I can think of in the last 5 or so years, that seems to be building the amount of boats they desire, and have made a big enough impact in their market/field to continue on.

I can fully appreciate the idea of being scrared to stroke the 800K check for the first "idea" boat. But, lets remember that we are talking a global market, not just US. Surely there is someone who wants to be a sport out there ---- anywhere in the world.

I have spoken to Chip. Honestly, I can't get any real answers other than "people have to ride in it to believe it" OK, I got that. Now, a year later, where are the sales? I estimate there should be 3-5 sold WORLDWIDE right now. Whats the deal.

I'm saying this because it frustrates me to see such a great product go absolutely no place knowing that it is a product that could be sold TODAY. But, hey what do we know Frankie? We've only sold a few thousand boats boats between us:sifone::lurk5::ack2::driving:

Remember that Callan ran the 50 for a few years before Dave decided to build his and then that got the ball rolling with JBS, Cintron, Aquamania. Then the pleasure models started showing some demand, now Mystic is backed up a few years in production...

The last time I talked to Todd (july 4th), they were going to build 3 more v's and finish the cat... I believe the cat is over at Turbine Marine.

I'd put DW in that same conversation, although Doug doesn't promote his boats at all, if you want one, you have to come build one. :sifone:

You should get on the horn with those guys and work out a commission for yourself, then take that bet on the road! :sifone:

Theres only a handful of mfg's I'd do something with. Statement would be one because I already know what needs to be done and where the problems are. Easy fix.

I agree with you guys. It needs to be "sold". I salesman will get you reaching for your check book.

A tech guy and a race guy will get a, "Thank you that was very nice and really informative. See ya."
