A Gun in the House

The purpose of fighting is to win. There is no possible victory in defense. The sword is more important than the shield, and skill is more important than either. The final weapon is the brain. All else is supplemental.

As John Steinbeck once said:

1. Don't pick a fight with an old man. If he is too old to fight, he'll just kill you.

2. If you find yourself in a fair fight, your tactics suck.

3. I carry a gun because a cop is too heavy.

4. When seconds count, the cops are just minutes away.

5. A reporter did a human-interest piece on the Texas Rangers. The reporter recognized the Colt Model 1911 the Ranger was carrying and asked him 'Why do you carry a 45?' The Ranger responded, 'Because they don't make a 46.'

6. An armed man will kill an unarmed man with monotonous regularity.

7. The old sheriff was attending an awards dinner when a lady commented on his wearing his sidearm. 'Sheriff, I see you have your pistol. Are you expecting trouble?' 'No Ma'am. If I were expecting trouble, I would have brought my rifle.'

8. Beware the man who only has one gun. HE PROBABLY KNOWS HOW TO USE IT!!!

But wait, there's more!

I was once asked by a lady visiting if I had a gun in the house. I said I did.

She said 'Well I certainly hope it isn't loaded!'

To which I said, of course it is loaded, can't work without bullets!'

She then asked, 'Are you that afraid of some one evil coming into your house?'

My reply was, 'No not at all. I am not afraid of the house catching fire either, but I have fire extinguishers around, and they are all loaded too.'

[To which I'll add: Having a gun in the house that isn't loaded is like having a car in the garage without gas in the tank.]

Works for me. There are several loaded guns in my home. I'm not going down like a sucker. Thinking about getting a concieled carry permit over the winter. Wonder what Nobama is gona do in regards to this? Which reminds me, I need to re-up with the NRA for another 3 years. They are gonna need the money.

We have a gun in the house and I have my conceal carry license as well.

All of the above are great points.

I need to join the NRA and help out as well.

I don't mind a loaded gun in the house. But, please don't have a round in the chamber.

Plus, when you chamber a shell in a shotgun it sounds so sweet. Almost as sweet as the sound of the criminals fleeing the house! :p

Just my two-cents...

Snaping the bolt on the AK can have the sam effect.....

Agreed. I only chamber a round when I mean business.

I have walked outside in the night and held the gun up as I cycle a round into the chamber. That sound does mean business! If anybody was out there, they got the idea. :sifone:

There was a study done on the best home defense weapon. A 12 guage pump shotgun won as the best because when interviewing criminals and cops, they found out that in 82% of all would be breakins, the criminals left when hearing the pump.:) We have two home defenders.:26:

I had a retired cop who worked the Chicago Projects during the 60's and 70's, told me that "everyone" knows the distinct sound of a Pump racking a shell and everyone backs up or leaves when hearing it....:leaving:

the other 18% were unavaliable for comment . . .

Amateurs like fancy. 30-round pistol mags, lasers, belt-fed light machine guns and so on. If you're cornered in a building in the dark and out-numbered, you're best odds are with a 12ga shotgun with 00 buckshot.

My 12 gauge isn't even shiny. ;)
And it holds half a box.:patriot:

I have a nice pistol gripped Remington 870 12ga with a "short" barrel under the bed amongst many other handguns withing reach.

My main Home defense weapon is my old BPS with the barrel cut off, and the plug removed, loaded with 3" #2 Heavy shot. Nothing like a shotgun at close range. You don't have to worry about the intruder testifying thats for sure! ;)

Every one of you gun nuts that talk about using this or that on someone would sh!t your pants if you ever had to point it at someone and pull the trigger.

If you live in a neighbourhood where you think there is risk, get a better job and move.

I suggest the turd making a mark on your underwear would drown out your shotgun racking a shell.
