And the other start would be the P classes. Don't care if you have 4, 5, or 6 different classes in the org. Just line up the ones that are extremely close and make them identical.

If Ilmor wants to field a boat I can't see why they can't. Panasonic is uncontested. Hard Rock had a pair at some point. OSS has power to weight. There was a Mean Fountain last Key West.

Exactly. There are like 4 classes where it is one manufacturer. The other 3 million classes are open to anybody and everybody. Of those 4 Merc classes, there is about 18 of the approximately 90 boats that have raced this year. So over 80% of the boats and classes are open to non-Merc stuff.

As far as I know the biggest Cat Lite gripe is gear ratio's. Some teams want multi gear ratios allowed some teams want ONE ratio allowed. Multi ratios WERE allowed two years ago and last season(in OSS) it was voted to ONE ratio. In OPA & SBI multi ratios are allowed. What are the other gripes in cat lite other than this?

Some people have to make their sponsors happy. They will do what it takes to make that happen.

If you want I can make a list of people that flex the rules in their favor but it would involve almost everyone. To give you an example a (Lead Helmet) painted to look like the real one to make weight. It happens a lot.

My point it F@#K the rules. It has been a long time since it was fun.

Think back to Key West 96 You running D class with the 32 and talkin sht.

The rules are keeping lots of potential new people to bring in fresh companies like Ilmor. If they were allowed in Merc might have to step up and help their guys and make it a COMPETITION.

a piece of lead the size of a helmet would weight about 200 lbs. if a tech man saw you bringing your helmet to the boat on a hand truck, i think he might get a little suspecious,,,,unless u could just throw it under your arm and walk over there inconspicuis ??? also in most series ,,,the 3 i raced in this year we had to remove the helmets and jackets, it,s a neet idea tho.,,, i,m going to build one for fun ,

HMMMMM St Clair River, Lake St Clair,. OC and Point are the only 2 on OPA schedule. The thread is about unification, Biloxi can be very snotty, and Sunny Isles has true Ocean racing Like the ole days, bring both the boats and run one friday and one Sunday!!!

smitty, dave, you posted somewhere that you and anthony might move to supercat. are you still working on that? and if so whats the possibility of creating a hp to weight class and finally bringing all the cats under one checkered flag. and while doing that make it the only cat class other than the p classes and shut the door on the wallet racing thats plagueing offshore at the moment.

honestly theres one two ways to fix the problem of what to have as a premier class.
1- have the racers come together and create ONE class for cats and one for vees

or

2- one of the orgs needs to put its foot down and come up with the rules for the 2 classes fo vee and cat and say thats it. if you wanna wallet race go do poker runs. AND YOUR JUST THE GUY TO DO THAT SMITTY AND THOSE THAT REALLY WANT TO RACE IN A COMPETIVE CLASS WILL FOLLOW.

I understand what you are saying. But, you will never get one org, let alone 3 or 4, to agree on one Vee Class and one Cat Class. It will not ever happen. Unless, as Rich says, there is only one of each left.

The reason, you just made 80% of all offshore boats currently racing obsolete.
