I don't have much but it's a 40hp and I think it's a Johnson.

Serial # J2515798
Model # RCL-27A

My dad is getting into antique boats and collecting old outboards.

I can get it for $100 with controls. Been sitting a shed for years.

Joey,
I can't tell you much, but there are a bazillion of them on Craigslist.

Make sure he takes advantage of www.searchallcraigs.com

I've got a 1986 Mercury 25HP on my 1985 Mini-Hawk.
I'd eventually like to find something of similar vintage with more power. :D

Speeds?
Coin?

Hadn't really thought about it, havn't even driven it in 16 years.......:ack2: Best I ever saw was 54, perfect little ripple to free it up.

It's an older pull start, not electric, Merc. 10' Bonanza.

Here are a couple of pictures from my collection.

I love that sleigh or ? on the right......

That's my dads creation about '59or'60. It was an old sleigh that had been in my uncles barn, up in the hay loft for years. We had a real bad winter with a lot of snow and the river froze over real thick. They thought that it would be a good idea to bring it out to the house and pull it up and down the river with my fathers home built tractor.
The next summer it was sitting alonside the house and the neighbor came over and said "Hey. ya' know what?"
With that, they were on their way to the dump to get a couple of old water tanks to use as pontoons. As fate would have it, the tanks provided just enought bouyancy to make it appear as if the runners were sitting on top of the water. The motor is a 5hp super hurricane. The motor that I started boating with.

The picture on the left is of a boat that belonged to a family friend. The man standing up in the boat is my uncle Ed and the guy holding it to the dock is my dad. That is the first boat that I ever rode in.

I found a pic of a boat like the one my dad is doing right now. 1960-somthing Duo. This is not his boat, I don't have any pics of it on my computer. It's in much better shape than this one. Has an old Merc 8hp but the factory label says it's rated for 50hp.... :driving: Can you imagine?????

Now after a couple of antique boat shows he wants one with fins... 57 Chevy style fins that is.

One of my grand fathers had a 14 boat with fins. Had twin 18 HP Johnsons on it...

Any idea how old this outboard is? Belonged to my grandfather, used it into early 70's fishing on his alum. boat.

VERY old. hang on to it. Prob 20's or 30's?? I have about a half dozen in motors from the 40's and 50's in storage. Most are in near museum condition.
