I've used both the 4212 and 5212. The touch screen is very cool unless you're in rough water. The 4212 still has the buttons and I think it's easier to use.
There are a lot of improvements from the 3000 series to either one especially if you spring for the chip.

Actually curious if you (or anyone else) might have had any issues when the temparture dropped, to see if it became tempermental.

I'd love to have the 5212!!!!
...but don't have the real estate for it without reconfig'ing the entire helm. I wish they made a 5210!!
I'd rather go with the buttons of the 4210 than go to the smaller 5208. Even without buttons the 5208 actual screen size is still 2" smaller than the 4210.
I have the chip for my 3210 but looks like the chip for the 4210 does a lot more; only way I keep off the rocks! LOL- sort of...
Sizes- the 4210 may even be too big but think I can make it work.
3210 = 13.1 x 8.8 x 3.25 (WxHxD)
4210 = 13.4 x 8.9 x 4.2

The new series utilize an SD memory chip so your old ones won't work.
That said they have a lot of detail with the built in world maps so you may not need it.
The chip gives you more features like a google earth image and aerial photos.
The best feature with the chip is that it can plot your route for you instead of just drawing a straight line from point A to B.
I've never had a temp drop enough in SW Fl to notice. However this past weekend it was really hot here and it did seem a little sluggish.

I knew that but thanks for clarifying. Chips are cheap/inexpensive in the grand scheme of things and make the products that much better.
My 3210 has overhead shots of marinas- nice when pulling in a place for the 1st time and have no idea where the fuel, ramp or pump outs are.
I wonder if I will be able to finally catch a fish with all the detail the 4210 has!?!

Anyone have a template for the 4210 laying around?
Guess I could make one since they list the dimensions but figured I'd ask before going that route. Looks like the 6xxx & 7xxx series just came out but no 10" models either.

Nothing new from Garmin at the Miami show in 10.4" sizes.
I just got my 3210 back from a factory refirb at Garmin; thinking I may eBay it and get a 4210. Looks like I can reuse the all the same cables I already have installed so will put the 4210 cables in with the 3210.
For comparison, I looked at the same website for both and there is about a $600 difference but being I'm an eBayer vs a store I'd expect less for mine than what they are getting ($1200).

I did the vice-versa- my Garmin feeds my Smartcraft- GPS speed, sonar depth finder and waypoint distance with fuel burn/time, time of day, etc.
With most of them NMEA 2000, I wouldn't think it would be a major task. Install/wiring diagram would be all that is needed- I did a few connections myself who, on a 1-10 scale of tool related work I'm a 2 at best. Color coated wires = pretty simple.

4010 vs 4210
The 4210 comes with "preloaded coastal maps". I plan on getting the blue chart g2 SD card anyway so does this really matter? Only a $200 retail difference but think I found a deal on a display model...
