Fines proposed for going without health insurance

Seriously though, the only way to get health care costs down is to force people to pay for their own. I'm all in favor of personal responsibility, and I demand everyone be the same.

So end Medicare now, and stop my GD taxes. You want a tax cut? You got one. I'll pay my own way. Companies can no longer pay for health insurance, or they will be treated as wages and taxed accordingly. If someone needs to pay a large bill, they can take out a loan.

If they can afford health insurance, they can buy it.

I'm a very big fan of free markets :sifone:

See how easy this is?

But, believe it or not, there are many things which can be done.

Tort reform as I've said before. Less than 50% at fault, responsible for all legal costs.

Higher premiums, co-pays, and deductibles for those who choose a lifestyle that adds costs. ie; smoking, excessive drinking, drugs, obesity, boat racing, etc......

End of life expenses, I don't know the answer. Obviously an extra 6 months for an extra million bucks doesn't seem to make sense. But, if it's me or my wife, I honestly have no idea what I'd do.

I'd probably put it just the opposite. Large deductibles annually and then insurance takes over. Just like a car, boat, or house.

I can pay, or take out a loan and pay, a $5,000 doctor bill. A million $ one because I get cancer, not so much.

You can do that with my plan certainly. Choose whatever deductible you need, pay whatever you wish. Everyone will be in the same boat (boating reference)

What ever happened to the concept of "free market"? Get the government completely out of giving away "free" healthcare, and let the marketplace take over.

The government needs to pass tort reform to severly limit the amount that people can sure for as well as make the loser pay for the winner's lawyer bills.

Let the employers compete for good employees with generous health insurance plans and let the insurance companies compete for customers.

If the government will stop giving away "free sh!t" then the healthcare crisis in this country will take care of itself.

Just my jaded two-cents... :boxing_smiley:

Oops! Don't mention obesity! I started a thread about that and all the fat people were hatin'! ;)

You kinda started that one wrong. I remember it.

There is a difference between medical obesity reasons and those who choose to eat a lot.

As I said, an easy fix, obese people, no matter what the reason, need to pay more for their insurance, have a larger deductible, and a larger minimum annual out of pocket. Just like bad drivers pay more for theirs.

Then, when they get down to their normal weight range, their prices drop to normal. If they choose to stay heavy, they choose to pay more. Then, I don't care anymore......

Lets see if I have this correct. There is such a huge demand for health insurance from the general population that the government has to issue fines to people who don't want health insurance:confused:

Someone who understands.......:sifone:

I'm down with that!!! It would provide incentive! ;)

Speaking of incentive...... you would think this would be incentive but I guess it's hard for me to understand cause I've never smoked....

My friend was diagnosed with brain cancer just before getting married, about 10 years ago.... They put off the wedding so he could go for treatment but before doing so he made a pit-stop at the sperm bank to make a few deposits..;) It was an agonizing treatment for but he made a full recovery.... After the treatment he got married and now he has 4 kids thanks to making the pit stop... ;)

So fast forward a number of years... He hasn't been able to get life insurance due to his circumstances and he's been waiting and trying for a very long time.....

Soooo.....4 kids at home and waiting for life insurance to come thru, he and his wife start smoking again... But they tell themselves it will only be for special occaision or some BS like that, WTF!!!:willy_nilly:

So fast forward a number of months and the special occaision thing turns into a regular occaision thing..... One day they're sitting at home when someone knocks on the door..... It's the guy from the insurance company who stopped by to have them sign papers because it looks like they're approved for the life insurance!!!! Good news, right????? WRONG!!!! The guy then turns to my friend and says, ok we're going to have to take a blood sample before I leave......

Long story short, they didn't get approved for the insurance.....:leaving:

Can anyone begin to see why health care companies lobbied so hard this year?

Massachusetts plan is an abomination. Romney says health care premiums plunged after it was put in place. Last I looked, they were quite a bit higher. The fines are despicable. A huge difference between what Romney got and what Obama wanted is Romney wanted each state to have it based around the model, not a national plan. I've seen how each state deals with the various jobs of health care, securities and insurance. No sane individual would want this to continue.

Perhaps they'll have a list of states with good boating that have the lowest fines?

My GF is an instructor at Georgetown University and they can't graduate them fast enough.

Graduating them is their job but once they graduate there is a job shortage. My wife is a RN recruiter for the largest staffing company in the US. They routinely HAD 5,000 jobs available nationwide. Currently less than 500 available...... In her years of doing this the industry has never been hit so hard.

The causes:

1. Part timers coming back full time due to spouse losing their job
2. Lack of demand- Less cosmetic surgery, workers comp injuries and elective surgeries due to slow economy
3. Hospitals have had budget cuts causing them to work with less staff.

The nurses used to demand everything under the sun and would usually get it. However now the tide has turned and the hospitals dictate the terms. Lower pay and benefits across the industry. Sign on bonuses used to be routine but now they are the exception.

Funny thing. The only way to make the plan work is to make the healthy low risk people buy insurance, too. I have savings for if I get seriously ill. I bet I don't spend $300 on doctor visits a year. They wan't me to pay that much per month. Why should my healthcare increase tenfold? I think everyone is missing who will benefit from this plan - the same people that make you wear seatbelts and motorcycle helmets and keep increasing your rates.

About three years ago, I broke my foot. Four doctor visits and several x-rays, my total bill was under $1000. As a matter of fact, when they ask for your insurance and you say "I'll just write a check" they cut the fee almost in half. They don't even try to hide it.

The doctors rip off the insurance companies, and the insurance companies are ripping you off.:reddevil:
