this looks a lot better http://www.acehardware.com/product/index.jsp?productId=1291467#showReviews

your post reminded me that I need a better way to store 100' of 1/2" line

Initially, yes. I know somebody that used one of those but he had to break the winding handle off so it would fit in his anchor locker. They take up a lot more room then the cheapy 'manual' ones. He ended up throwing his out and going with the cheapy ones, but to each there own :D

I can fit 150' of roped wrapped up in the same bag with my medium box anchor, simple and easy.

Insanity, how do those box anchors work in the muck around here??

It works pretty good and folds flat out of the way in its neat little sack it comes with when not in use. :sifone:. I've used it upriver (Maumee) where the bottom is all rocky and I could never get a spade anchor to hold and out at WT in the muck that's on the bottom out there. :ack2: I just toss it in, back up about 50 feet or so and give it a few good tugs until it sets.

box anchors are real good at retrieving mud:biggrinjester:

That it does. I usually bring it up, then drop it about 5-6 feet below the bottom of the boat, tie it to the side cleat, and idle for awhile until it cleans itself off. Usually by the time I get the rope wound up its clean and ready to go.

+1, the box anchor and beach spike are the best accessories that I have bought for the boat worry free anchoring just about anywhere. I dont even know where my danforth is anymore.

Well I'm back to work after a great long week end in the great white north. I can not thank my hosts enough for the hospitality they have shown my family on our trips to Northern Ohio over the years. Adam and Beth are two of the finest people I have ever known, and I am proud to call them family.

The fun had by all was a direct result of our incredible host, chef and cruise director!!!

:blush5:

David - It was great seeing you guys again this year! You're always a pleasure to visit with. Too bad Jennifer couldn't come, we missed her. Looking forward to the next one already (3 mos. to go).

Rob - glad you were able to spend a couple days with us. You're always welcome here.

The cruise director failed to make sure dockage was available at our initial destination :ack2:, at least chief had the foresight to check before we left . The alternative destination worked out quite well though.

Those plastic doo-hickeys for wrapping electric extension cords around work good for 1/2 x 150' anchor lines, easy on, easy off. And cheap!!!

I may have to get the extension cord wrap for the line. Something that will be small and fit properly.

We had a box anchor. I sold it a few years ago. It hooked everytime, but it's very heavy and takes up a lot of room compared to a Fortress IMO.
