Obese People are costing us money

Sean/AP, I have to agree with you on some of the portions they are serving.
I can't "supersize" anything. I just can't eat/don't care to eat that much.
I like good food, but an all you can eat anything is a complete waste for me.
I used to eat a lot more when I was younger, but I'm not as physically active as I once was. At that time, I needed the calories.
It's not uncommon for me now to not finish a normal size plate.
But hey, I'm 5'11, 165#.

Then simplify it. Charge the producers of fast food 10% flat fat tax. The in turn bump their prices 10 points and the get around is gone. :)
I see what your saying, but you cant/shouldnt force a business to collect for the gov. Especially on something like this, there are big eaters that have a metabolism to burn it.

theoretically though, forcing people to have physicals is a sort of healthcare and gov clinics could do that, the report from the physical should base what they are charged for "gov" insurance if they so choose. if they dont choose it, they are on their own. Government already collects tax on food, drinks and such.
realistically we are a free society, that is given certain rights of life, death and the pursuit of happiness, no where in the constitution does it say free health care for fat people, or free care for morons, or drunks, or drug addicts, or prostitutes.
take away the free handouts, offer basic services for life and death and be done with it.

About 5 years ago I convinced myself that I couldn't afford health insurance, i had a client in my shop and we were talking about it, he said something that struck me to the core and I listened, i had 2 Harley's, 5 cars, 2 boats and was living well and I "couldn't afford" health insurance. the truth was being young and healthy i thought it was a waste, i wanted my toys. now I have 2 boats, 2 cars, 1 Harley and health insurance. It was all in a persons priority's.

there isn't one person on this forum that can say that if they didnt cut back on some of the guilty pleasures in life that they couldn't afford it. Why blame the gov? each person has their own set of responsibilities. live up to them.

This is not true. I had eight boats, three bikes, two four wheelers and I've already liquidated anything that I can. I probably can't get much for a kidney on the black market.

Yep, I was trying to catch Cuda's fleet. Tough to do back then.....

Cuda is one of the exceptions the government should be here to assist, and instead they suck every penny for those who don't do a dang thing to help improve themselves.

We have probably done more to assist those in need on this site than our government have done to help those who truley are having a tough short term issue. We see the same thing with our troop care.

all the years that you had all these things did you buy health insurance?

No, invested in real estate. What do you think? Could you forsee getting MS at 53? If so, you know a helluva lot more than neurologist do. You are in the wrong profession.

I had kidney stones about twelve years ago, and I paid for that out of my own pocket.

It would be better if people were in good physical condition. Imagine the benefits to our country if people were fit. The other countries couldn't touch us. We would rule. The costs of people who are not in the proper condition are too great a burden to bear. They should be responsible for their fitness. In fact, maybe the state can help with a few common sense guidelines and restrictions. Furthermore... folks who can't employ self control, are ill, or have sub-standard genes should not be given access to the health care. If that doesn't work... we could round them up and send them through the gas chamber.... you know.... for the greater good of the thin and healthy, preferred citizens. Eventually... we could create well.... um... a master race. In the long run, it would help our economy in this terrible time... provide for a better defense of our fatherland, and create a better future for our children.

This dude makes a great case. I am in. :)

My Mom has Alzheimers. It is costing $4,200 a month to keep her in a facility that can give her the proper care.

If we should just take her out back and shoot her.... you know... for the greater good... I understand.

Hey.... how about retarded people. I am on the board of a residential home for people with developmental disabilities. They are not very smart, I have to admit. And some are fat. Dam near obese. Obese and retarded. Not productive at all. I swear... we have to raise money just to put a roof over their head. And their health care costs are steep. Not just the fat ones. I say we off them too.... then once a month on a Monday morning I won't have to go to that stupid meeting.

no i cant foresee anything but I took someones advice, who was wiser than I. the point was I cut back on my frivolous things to do what I should have done as a responsible person. to quote you, "they all have a cell phone" well that 100 or so a month sure would take a knock outta some insurance on someone.

I had an employee that had 11 Ford mustangs, paid 500 a onth to store them but wouldnt pay his rent on time. wanted to borrow from me to declare bankruptcy. am i the only one that sees the irony in borrowing to file to screw the people you borrowed from?

I'm not responsible for anyone's lot in life beside my own and my daughters, and I pay her insurance too, she is 13.
secondly, did you not think you were getting older and the chance of something/anything happening? why is that the government/states fault? being self employed how much money went through your hands/company? surely some of it could have benn diverted for insurance, insurance is just as risky as real estate.

Sure I knew I was getting older, but I never expected the economy to take a crap right at the worse time for me. I'm not whinining, but you ought to keep a civil tongue in your mouth. Karma is a biotch.

It is avery tough subject. Professor Shockly, and others, stated long ago that people with IQ's under 100 and those with genetic heriditary disorders should be offered large amounts of money to become sterilized so these issues would correct themselves over a few generations.

Probably would have been the correct program to undertake. Nothing forced, just encouraged. They said the oposite was what was occuring, the race was becoming dumber and less genetically strong because those with these issues were having more children than those without.

Anyway, off topic sort of.

There is no doubt our electorate is getting dumber. It isn't the well educated that are having six kids.

A girl I really like has a 27 year old daughter with Downs Syndrome, who is overweight. Trish walks with her every morning to try to keep her weight down. Trish has never turned her back on her children. Samantha is just the sweetest little girl.

why is my tongue not civil? I'm not chastising you for your lot in life. just dont blame me or anyone else for it. I believe in karma, thats why, as I posted earlier, I took someone elses advice to heart. no one expected the economy to take a crap, I had to scale back more this year than last. so I'm planing for things to get worse.

You may think yourself as perfect, but since you have only you and your daughter to worry about, I'm willing to bet there is a woman out there somewhere that's tired of your holier than thou attitude.

What ever happened to paying for doctor visits? What about catastrophic insurance? Pay for the small visits and have insurance for the emergencies. This was the norm 25 years ago. We went to the doctor, we paid for it. When my wife had back surgery the insurance paid 80% and we paid 20%. It took us 10 years to pay it off, but we did. Can the government get any more intrusive into your life and lifestyle than controlling your healthcare?

Exactly, plus look at some hospital pictures before the 60s there were 8 people in one large room sometimes no single rooms we as a country did this to ourselves.

I'm far from perfect, and I am fully aware of it. but unlike you I don't expect everyone else to pay for my F ups... you ****ed your life and money away deal with it.
