I just can't do it all anymore.........

seriously Johnny if we were closer I would give Ian a few hours off for good behavior to help out:) I know there are a lot of people here that feel you pain. I think with so many threads about the people with the cool boats like the guys on E Dock we start to loose perspective and think that most everyone on these boards has a ton of money to burn on boats and engines.
That is not the case at all. I see you have to travel a long time to work, I assume it's not possible to live closer, but if you could I would surely try. There is no place that I would think is worth driving 5 hours a day to live at. I am sure you are exhausted, if possible at least see if you could throw someone you work with a few bucks to let you bunk at their place once or twice a week. I know you want to be home, but the stress is probably not making you the greatest company anyway.

These are a few things that I would suggest.

1. Take a breather from the boat project, the stress is not worth it.
2. If you are not already, get on the west coast boat sites, and observe a while to see who the people are in your area that know boats and engines, and see if you can get advice there.
3. Do you know people in your area that have go fasts, if not try to make some friends with them, join a club if your area has one. I bet if you throw some gas money their way you can ride with them. I am always amazed to see how many people take their boat out alone or with one person. I know with us we welcome the company, plus it's nice to have help with docking, launching, and gas money. We belong to a Lake Erie offshore club and with the economy turning sour a lot of members have either sold their boat or not put it in the water this year. Most of those members are on a boat as often as they like, some have even told me they are boating more this year since they are not worrying about their boat. They are riding with other members but not freeloading since they always pitch in for gas and buy drinks and so forth. It's a win win for both boat owner and rider. I know that most of you guys would rather be in your own boat, but riding with someone else beats the alternative of just reading about it on line.

Good luck to you

great advice msp

I had to look up where Bermuda Dunes is. No wonder it's hot, you're in friggin
Palm Springs/Indio! :ack2:

I'm in Lake Elsinore and work in Orange County. I'm in the SCOPE club and there are a bunch of guys that go out pretty regularly (see www.scopeinfo.com). I had mine out last weekend and we ran from Dana Point to Long Beach and back for lunch. It was just me and the GF and we usually have room for riders.

I can help with your motor rebuilds but you are a little bit of a drive from me.

I had a 28 Cig OS that was a bit of a project (was told it was turn key when I bought it). Spent a lot of time and money working on it. Got it dialed in and finally sold it (wish I still had it now). Anyway, I have all the tools and stuff and have rebuilt many motors so let me know.

Don't get discouraged.

See I knew it, there's a club you can join, and someone that you might even be able to ride with. The last poker run we did was supposed to be just us in our boat. A guy from the club that we never met showed up at registration and said my boat's broke so I can't go and someone said Donna and Ian probably have room, I bet you could join them. I was so glad he approached us, it was great to have someone with us that knew what to do. Having him along was much easier than having to break in a rookie that does not know a Nor-tech from a Bayliner and thinks throwing you a $20.00 is being generous  And the best part is we made a new friend:cheers2:

Hey,
Thanks again for the kind words.
I did join "scope" last year and wanted to be in the club.
There are some "good" guys there.
But as we know the boat broke and still not fixed.
I will work on it once it cools off again.
In a way, I am glad I am not the only one!!

Johnny

Been there myself, bought the Baje Aug. 07, used for 2 hrs and broke a oil line, smoked bearings... done for the season..

winter 07/08 knew boat had transom rot and decided now was the time to do this, pulled both engines, new derigged boat totally, had transom, stringers and rear bulkhead done, rerigged boat, built 2 new big blocks, added K-planes lots of detail and paint...

May 08, fired engines went out Memorial weekend 20 min. spun a bearing...

Pulled that engine and redo it, put back in...

June 08 Run Weenie run in Mentor hurt port engine now, same thing....

Pull that engine and also the starboard just to see, port spun a bearing, and new starboard was not far behind....

July 08, completely go over every reason this would happen, figure out that it was due to too much clearance with standard oil pumps...

Aug 08 assembled my completely freh engines usung HV pumps this time and coated bearings for extra security....We are now at Julyc09 with 40-50 hrs and 2 poker runs later and all is well...

I was so ready to give up but powered through it, I refused to miss another season, glad I do all my own work because I can only blame me for my mistakes, I learned alot and really know BBC now!

In the end, I have had a great season so far and it has made all the heartache worth it!

Good luck buddy...

Tony... hope we see you soon too!

Hey,
Thanks again for the kind words.
Feeling a little better today and was cleaning the garage and thought how blessed I am.
So I took a couple of photos of my garage, motors and stuff.
Here are my pair.......
One is ready to go back together and one is headed to the machine shop.

This is my 14 year old sons jet boat we are working on.....

Just more good news we had our truck lifted by 4wheelparts and the tires are junk.(I bought it new from dealer and they had these people lift it)
I took it in because it has a "death wobble" and my wife is afraid to drive it.
According to them it was the wrong tire for the truck and they do not care that I will not get even 20K miles on them.
It was a fabteck kit they put on and the radias bar that goes from the axel to the frame was cracked(I had to show them).

When I called their stores and talked to them about it before they knew that they put on the kit, they said it must be the staibilzer's gone bad.
Once I took it in they cannot fix it?????????????

The place was a joke and my truck still has problems

So I went and bought my wife a new car, the cash I put down could have my boat running, go figure......

So in a few months I will buy tires and staibilzers for my truck and fix what those screw ups could not.
Kinda funny as I have built many rock crawlers (many in mag. shoots) and 4x4's over the years,
I did not tell them that, I just listened to thier BS flowing out of their mouths.
Can you tell I'm ****ed..........:boxing_smiley:
That just puts the boat farther back:(

But any way, thanks for being there....

Johnny

I feel your pain. We've been working for 2 years on our new 41. I still don't have a go fast to hit the water. 90 days and we'll be on the water though!

I feel your pain. Almost had my Donzi in the water last yr and then discovered that most of the wiring was junk.

The worse part is that my other half has no understanding of the problem and only *****es when ever I work on it. "You told me it would be in the water,
I want to go boating"

Hmmm, Donzi or girlfriend ...... Nah, I want both.

But at least you have a garage full of cool parts........:sifone:

That I do.....
That I do......
I am very lucky to have toys and stuff to work on.
I really love to tinker(mostly with the wife):biggrinjester:
Whether it is my remote controled boats..
Bamboo fly rods....
Metel detecting....
Cigars.....
RUM.. I love rum
I'm always doing something.
I can't even watch a Nascar race with out cleaning a rod or a gun or working on something.
Right now I am working on a Humidor for my cigars, as I want one big enough for box's.
Also got to get back in the garage to finish porting the heads on my sons jet boat.

Today the wife is at Coronado island with my daughter-in-law.
So my sons and myself have dad/sons weekend and we are going to the movies tonight, then tomorrow morning hitting the golf course.
My brother is comming over for a great home cooked meal tommorow night, along with a splash of fine single mault.

Who says I should be bummed that the barge is not in the water yet...
its just life....

Johnny

You'll get to it when the time is right for you. Do as much as you can while/when you have the time and the money.
My project has been on hold for quite a while after spending a few months looking for a new job. And then this evening, on my way home from work I had a belt let loose on one of the tires on my Avalanche. That's gonna set me back a little further. Paying for two houses, and trying to catch up on a few months with no income...
Keep your chin up, and yes, be thankful that you have it to tinker with.

Sorry about the tire, yea I know it can be worse.
As I said I am really blessed.
Now having another car payment means less in boat funds every month and less to put away for a rainy day.

I'm in the same, uh, boat.

I bought my Scarab III in early November 2007. Around Thanksgiving my wife notifies me that we're having another baby. So, that rules out boating Summer 2008.

Spring 2009 I'm getting ready again, but my nephew is WIA in Iraq so we make plans to visit him. One week after visiting him my Mother-In-Law is found dead in her home with no will and a huge mess to deal with. So, no boating in 2009.

What will stop me in 2010? It gets worse every year so I dread to think about.

In the end, though, I got a new son in 2008 and my nephew survived being wounded in Iraq. That boat doesn't mean crap compared to that.

I send you best wishes that everything will work out for you very soon.

Why are you sorry about the tire???
Did you have something to do with it??:26::sifone::ack2:
Just kidding man. Chit happens and we all have to deal with it.

I expected my house in Kentucky to sell fast, now I'm looking at taking a loss on it just to not have two house payments. I'm behind in child support after being off work for 4 months.
The boat is gonna have to wait a bit.
Dropping about $1000 in truck tires wasn't in the plan this month, but, what are you gonna do?
Put the tires on a truck that is eligible for the $4500 trade in...
I'll keep my 3/4 ton Avalanche, and you can all keep your new Huyndai.
I'm Happy.
I've got a great wife who loves me, and two great dogs. A boat that has all the pieces (just needs some paint, and put back together), and I've got a great place to live, a good job, and I have some great friends that I've met here on the board.
What in this world is more important?:)
Johnny - I know you're a west-coaster.
Dude!Sweet! and I are the only other west- guys that hang out on this board, but we're trying to grow that. Tank is here also, so is Rex and Uncle Dave.
Keep us posted on your progress, and if there is a get together going on, I'll keep you in mind, and send an invite.

What yr Scarab III?
Almost bought an 87 (?) that Glassdave owns now. It was a pimp boat.
The cabin was ultra high-class. I'm an old married guy, so the boat is probably serving Dave better than it would have me.
Just keep in mind, these are labors of love, and IT'S A HOBBY!!!
Your arms aren't gonna fall off if it isn't done yet.
Take your time, and do it right.
You'll be better off than rushing to get it to the water.

Unreconstructed -
Let me also say, I have the utmost respect for those that are fighting for our Country.
Please pass along my appreciation to your nephew, I greatly appreciate and respect what they are doing for the rest of us.
My Thank You to him personally, as well as all the soldiers that he is serving with.

I'm sorry to hear of your Mother-in-Laws passing, I'm sure there are many issues to deal with. I wish you the best in working them out.
