Yes, TTAC got that wrong. That ******* Farago doesn't know **** about the auto industry, and is a waste of bandwidth. He's been hoping for the Big 3 to fail for years now. I wouldn't trust a single word out of his mouth. All the car sites I visit joke about that clown's loudmouthed opinion on everything. Basically it's like a journalism school dropout publishing business analysis like it's gospel.
For the record, I work IN PURCHASING at GM, so I know a little more about it than that jerkoff. The standard terms and conditions are 60 days (there are of course other agreements, as their are thousands of suppliers and different situations). I would take every single thing on that website with a giant grain of salt. To say he has an agenda against domestics would be an understatement.:ack2:
For the record
I spent 20 years selling manufactured parts to the auto industry (Including selling parts to Purchasing at GM) I often spent my time at in purchasing offices begging and pleading to get paid for parts that we had produced many months before (LONG AFTER 90 Days)
I know as much, if not more, than RLJ676 in this arena. He is only referencing his one division. I am not sure I believe it isn’t happening with him, but I have to take his word for it with the accounts he handles I have no proof otherwise but seems interesting to me
I worked with all of the big three and many Tier one and two companies
RLJ676 you may or may not be correct regarding the little part of the pie that you work on in GM
But take it from someone that worked with MANY buyers, engineers, ect... The auto industry has been slipping the pay terms further and further out for years and many have gone farther than 120 days
I was paid by the companies I sold for once the company was paid by the customer (I have always been on straight commission) so you can bet your butt I knew when my principles were not paid. It meant I was not paid
I would have to spend way to much of my time chasing payables that could have been better spent working on new programs and maintaining the work we were doing
Spin it any way you want, but it was that way in the entire industry and continues to be that way today
I have been out of the business for a few years now, but I talk to my old partner who is still a sales rep for a handful of companies to the auto industry (talked to him today) He said he was on his way to a meeting tomorrow in Detroit to get try to get paid on parts that are more than 120 past due
