Ohio man arrested for mowing unkempt grass at public park

Fri May 29, 4:54 pm ET

SANDUSKY, Ohio – An Ohio man arrested for mowing unkempt grass at a public park said he just wanted to make his city look nice. John Hamilton said he took control of the situation because the grass in Sandusky's Central Park was about a foot high. According to a police report, a witness said Hamilton was blowing grass onto the sidewalk and shredding trash in the park that had not been picked up.

Police said they arrested 48-year-old Hamilton after he refused to stop mowing and charged him with obstructing official business and disorderly conduct.

City Manager Matt Kline called the arrest unfortunate and said he understands Hamilton's frustration. Kline said budget cuts have left Sandusky understaffed for seasonal maintenance work.

Someday we need to change the rules on how we hire public servants. Can't they give a test you have to pass without getting special consideration for being handicapped??????

Like New Hampshire where Sod-In-My-Ear ruled against the police promotional test because no minorities passed. It's a test, you either have it or you don't.

Just stupid. I know how the guy feels I have a couple place's around me that are not kept up and it drives me nuts.

In Huron, right next to Sandsucky, its a law. You have to cut your grass or they will and charge you. I was pretty sure that Sandusky had the same ordinance. He should have cut it and charged them. Cant wait to hear how this turns out.

My neighbor just lost a 700K house (lost job, year later lost house). Lawn is foot high, bank is doing nothing so far. I suffer from can't see it from my house but the immediate neighbors are chipping in to have the lawn cut every couple weeks. If it was viewable from my house my wife would be insane. I don't even own a mower/weedeater anymore to just go over and cut it.

Underfunded or not, that job belongs to a union member. All governments are completely beholden to their union shops. :(

I used to live across from a park. The neighbors would regularly pick up the litter............until the city parks union rep heard about it.

they will spend a bunch of tax payers $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ 2 muck w/ the good Samaritan where it could B used chase'n murderers & rapists!!!:boxing_smiley::(

Murderers and rapists don't have money for fines.

Just goes to show you, no good deed goes unpunished. All this guy was doing was taking a little initiative to help the community out some, now he's got a huge hassle on his hands.

He should have ran the lawnmower over the pu$$y who called the cops on him.

Would the union members do it for the same wage the neighbor was doing it for?

LOL.......the union rep was ****ed because neighbors cared about the way the neighborhood looked???? I just changed my mind about the need for unions.........total BS!!!
