Any 525's with NXT drives vs. bravo?

The Lavey SVL boat was running a 525 with the NXT drive....initially I think the prop choices were limited but they got it worked out...I have heard that the 525w/NXT from Merc was more $ than the 700 package...doesn't make sense

It makes perfect sense when you're a monopoly and don't want a potential engine competitor getting their hands on the drive! ;)

I would think the NXT would be fast simply because of prop choices but what the hell do I know. I think I am still drunk from Friday night.

The NXT is being replaced on the Lavey by a Bravo so don't use that as your yard stick.

Wow lot's of good stuff here. :ack2:

Retail price for 525's NXT is $73,790.
Retail price for 700's NXT is $87,421.

You can substitute the drive portion with a SSM VI. That adds another $27,000 to the retail list price. However you still have the NXT transom assy w/ the integrated dry sump transmssion. That's basically a large cone clutch.

Jassman has 700's w/ NXT transoms and SSM VI drives. Mercury does not offer the 700 w/ a complete SSM VI package.

Just the facts Ma'am.

Do they take out a vertical shaft on the #6's when you order them with the NXT gimbal assy? Thanks for the info Terry :)

what is the point of running a 6 on a nxt assembly? why not have all 6 or all nxt....?

Fountain had some handling issues with the NXT on some of their
boats with 700's when they first came out, installing a 6 in place of the NXT cured these issues.

It had something to do with the gearcase shape of the NXT.

Fountain did have some handling problems, also water pick-up problems, with the NXT gearcases. Because of the high X's plus too much stern lift with the NXT gearcase. On the 38's they were running out of skeg in the water making the stern move around at high speeds. #6's with the longer skeg and less stern lift fixed that problem. Plus going to thru-hull water pick ups fixed that problem as well. I have not seen but heard the new NXT gearcase has a longer skeg. The NXT transmission is alot shorter than a normal Bam, Cyborg transmission. You could go all #6 but having the motors staggered you would loose even more cockpit space running a full size transmission, at least in a 38 Fountain.

Are the internals in the NXT the same as the #6?

If it bolts up to the same transom assy. and the lower case looks different and it accepts #6 props, what are the internal differences?

And then he figured out where the throttle was and recoverd. I can't wait till spring to go visit again!
