Wow...almost 12 boats race in Miami!

monster boat buildoff... in this episode Reggie vs. MTI, 7 Days... who can bring the bling to be crowned Kilo King?

what about a[ Overhauling show] for boats or [pimp my boat ]and start with:sifone: me, I have the motor Dean Gellner 572 and drive Konrad Ace Xfactor just need my 24outlaw rebuilt or say on the show its to far gone and give me one of these sutphen 277 or 32/ joker 28/ banana 28/ or S B y2k I love these boats and hope to get a hull at the end of the year or sooner. I think 1000 to 1200hp would run very nice in one of those. in cockpit seating by ppi or west coast by Designer Marine who built me nice replacement bolsters after mine were ripped a part in the cape race in 02. but seriously it would be great to have a show of doing boats over or building new ones and a show on two race teams one big boat one entry level, every week another set of teams. or a show on builders custom and non custom. like AMERICAN CHOPPER. well got to go to sleep for 2 hours going up in a balloon at 5am and its1am now and I have to leave at 330am:ack2:. fun things like this I can't sleep at night, like when Iam going out in Gerrys turbine 46 skater knot right I can't sleep the night before much. well you guys get back on track cause I'm all over the place as in most of my posts.:seeya:

oh know just looked and I am the start of page 13:eek:, hope we don't crash or that I lean over the side to much or lightning hits us oboy see yah later maybe. if not its been nice to meet all you guys on here and oso:seeya: Party Arty has left the rooommmmm!

Okay....

Dateline Miami 4/19/09

Miami Offshore Race reaches new highs in low

1. In single engine Family Sponsored Low Budget Class (FSLB1).... Sammy Sensational in his 28 year old, 26' Corsa Hull, "WHOREGASM", battled toe to toe with himself from the start. A minor course error almost cost him, but after doubling back to pick up his throttleman..and brother in law, Bernie Tagalong..who was sore but wet....the team continued to a close but well earned, uncontested, first place finish. Immediately after the white knuckled win, "Whoregasm" sunk....slowly. Said throttleman Tagalong "The old girl just can't take this much competition...and , frankly, neither can I" at which point Bernie fainted and fell face first into a sizzling barbecue full of brats.

2, In the twin engined Family Sponsored Low Budget Class (FSLB2)..... Gillette Underarm and his driver, sister, Hairyet, powered the newly refurbished, 1968 38' Bertram, "UGLY BUTT LOUD" to a runaway victory. Seemingly unchallenged, the pair charged through the fleet leaving the other competitor in the race "DOMINANT NOISY MACHISMO" looking like it was stopped. Unfortunately it was....... after its controversial power plants including one Ford small block and one Chrysler big block threw a combined 11 rods during the pace boat start.

3. In the twin outboard CAT ULTRA LIGHTclass (CUL2).... A twin outboard cat won.

4. In the dual engined Supercharged Fountain Is God class (FIG2SC)... an impressive fleet of 3 Factory backed Fountain 42 Footers made the start. The winning "CAT STOMPER" throttled by Reggie Fountain VII recorded an amazing 200 decibels at 500 yards, easily besting "BIG SHORT GUY"'s 176 decibels, and "EUROPEAN FUNNY MOTORS" featuring 16 cylinder naturally aspirated Pastabella engines as raced in P-1, at a lowly 145 DB. Since none of the boats completed lap one it was called a draw with the boss, Reggie, himself, grabbing all 3 first place trophies in his drive to catch Bill Seebold's record of 1000 race wins. After the race Reggie was quoted as saying "If you count my soap box derby and potato sack races when I was a kid....I'm only 875 wins behind Billy.... Betcha he can hear my footsteps when he goes to bed each night." Following that statement Mr. Fountain turned and walked face first into the crotch of a 5'11" female reporter from the Miami Herald

5, 6, 7, 8, The remaining class entrants all got first place trophies and were too hung over to remember much of the racing except to say that it was hard to wave to the 12 "fans" on the beach because you couldn't tell them from the huge flock of sunbathers that threatened to crowd them out. All 4 of these contestants complained of splitting headaches....especially when "CAT STOMPER" roared past.

The only other color highlight of note occurred when the crew of "TURBINE TOO MUCH" felt they weren't getting enough attention and decided to run the race course in reverse, causing several frightening near misses. Rather than disqualifying the team, the race committee unanimously awarded the Turbine Drama class (TurD) trophy to Reggie Fountain, narrowing Seebold's lead to a measly 874 wins.

The Wildly Overpriced Maximum Show Off Unlimited Extreme class (WOMSOUE) had no entrants due to the economy so the 8" high Block of Ebony trophy was also awarded to Mr. Fountain for use as a foot stool.

Highlights at 11.......

My father and I are sitting here, in tears! That was really good, Rich. Bravo!

MIAMI ONLY HAD 11 BOATS. Tee Hee. Interesting the people with the most "love" for our sport are always the first to bash it. Are you children?

But don't let this opportunity fade away like Offshore in general seems to be.

There is more true love on this thread for the sport of Offshore Power Boat racing than you can imagine. There were also more man hours and passion put into Offshore racing than you have any memory of, since you were'nt there.

However, in this thread we are not talking about racing...we are talking about a bad joke where the punchline is a fleet of mismatched boats running around alone.

Leave the CBS propaganda to the other threads, and good luck with making chicken salad out of this other stuff.

I have no dog in this fight but I feel compelled to chime in.

I was in Miami, hoping to see my first offshore race. I had a few friends with me and I had been talking to them about how cool this would be to see, etc. We wnt to check out the boats at the 'dry pits'. All we saw was 5 boats on trailers sitting in a parking lot. There wasnt even anyone around. Needless to say, we didnt go back to watch the racing the following day.

My boat won quite a few F1 races in SBI back in early 2000's from what I have been told including the Key West worlds. I have watched some videos and the racing looked cool. Has it changed since then?

I was let down. I was so friggin excited too.

Hi Mike:

Glad you liked it......at least you know the full context.

Some years ago (12?) you and I had a discussion in Biloxi about where the sport should go and what it should look like. We were frustrated with years of false starts, missteps and repeating the same mistakes over and over again. I told you then that the biggest single impediment to a true, simple, unified sport was residing in Key West. God Bless him, he keeps going like the Eveready Bunny, always finding new sources of support, a small cadre of loyal racers, a new spin to keep them dangling, and enough cash flow to feed the "Bubba's".

We, on the other hand, were invigorated by Gene's sense of purpose, vision and unwavering work ethic. A fuse was lit...and the APBA rocket had already lifted off, cheered on with the desires of so many to return to the glory days, before a bunch of (mostly) well meaning racers backed JC on the first of his three excursions into civil war and dismemberment (For the young among you, even two bankruptcies didn't stop him). I never begrudged him making a living (still don't) but, like a concrete wall, his immobility will forever keep the sport on its knees...and now he has the UIM and APBA logos on his back to point to for "legitimacy"...and a fleet of aimless, inexperienced competing groups to feast on each November.

Sadly the rocket has ended in pieces in the sea....off Miami, and Gene sleeps peacefully I pray.

You and I had our disagreements (Wars?) on details and methodology, and I never will forgive you for sticking Crip and me in that TV voicover booth with you know who after each race :D.

But, in the end, both of us can agree on having somewhat of a shared vision of the final result.

This definitely ain't it.

Regards to your dad...

Well at least you can watch it with more people than have ever watched anything in the whole history of television on CBS and find out how much better it was than..........

it actually was.

Rich, I don't know if it was the beer I had for lunch or what, but holy cow... that made me laugh!

Try chugging 3 milkshakes at the same time, made from cherry, creamsicle and blueberry ice creams and read it again. If my calculations are correct, you will have an amazing "Brain freeze" headache while blowing a rainbow out of your nose.

:p

i just heard, CBS is hiring T2x to do the announcing for sbi's tv series. the whole show is based on a Punk-ed episode for reggie

I respectfully decline........ This is a lot more fun with a lot less fiction required.

:p :p :p

On the other hand I would like to sit in as a guest host on Wind Tunnel.......

Of course it's only on Speed and doesn't have the Trillions and Zillions of viewers that CBS attracts. :D

This speaks volumes to the tremendous uphill climb SBI and CBS have on their hands.

Taken from Jayski:

NASCAR Looking into decline in TV Ratings: A double-digit decline in ratings for NASCAR on Fox has officials researching why the audience is shrinking and what, if anything, can be done to reverse the trend. Through the season’s first 10 races, Nielsen ratings on Fox are down 11.5 percent and viewership is down 10.8 percent from 2008 numbers, which don’t include a 2008 rainout. Ratings for each of the last seven Sprint Cup races going into last week’s event at Darlington were down by double digits. Fox’s average rating for the season was a 5.4 with 8.9 million viewers prior to Sunday’s race at Darlington, compared with averages of 6.1 and 10 million for 2008. “As you look at the current snapshot, it’s been a challenging year,” said Paul Brooks, president of NASCAR Media Group. “That being said, we’re still the No. 1 sport on television six of the last nine weeks. Our position in the sports and entertainment landscape is strong. The biggest impact is with our TV partners and their commercial sales. We’re mindful of that. The flip side is that we hear great things, that it’s not a NASCAR issue. It’s a broader economy and advertising issue.” Brooks said NASCAR and Fox are looking at every angle, from the lack of compelling story lines on the track to the spacing and timing of commercial breaks. Broadcasters have traditionally gone to commercial during pit stops, but Brooks said that NASCAR fans want to see the pit stops.

No question we shared the same basic vision and this "definitely ain't it". BTW - I was laughing with you not at JC. In fact, I do not think JC is even remotely responsible for the sport's woes. The fact is that we had built a better mousetrap by 2003 as evidenced by the various important metrics: comparative boat counts - 80+ to mid-teens at our events; we had replaced SBI in KW; GM as series title sponsor; more TV, sponsorships, money, etc.

At the end of the day, what doomed us was the lack of control over the boats which formed the foundation of the business plan: Super Cats and Vees. When Mauf, Mercury, et al. staged the boycott we realized we could never make any real money and the investors shut the LLC down. Simple as that.

Over the years since many have asked me what it would take to make the sport into something mainstream and my answer has been the same: The only chance the sport has is to create one tightly regulated cat class with 15 boats owned and controlled by the promoter at least for the first 5 years or so. If the promoter cannot guarantee there will be no boycott or splinter group to destroy its investment, no one will ever invest the money it takes to make chicken salad.

I am afraid, therefore, that the sport in this country will always remain a small regional hobby for a handful of people.

All I can say is you guys were the closest to eve pull off the big deal....I am going to continue beating my head on the mountain as I try to climb it but I am going to be very vocal and scream UNIFICATION ACROSS THE NATION!!!!!
