Cat Back Exhaust

I'm thinking about putting a cat back exhaust on my 6.0 has anybody picked up any performance or mpg?

I've done it twice on gas motors, late 90's Yukon with a 350 and current is a 5.4 liter ford. Both Borla systems, very quiet under 3000-3500 nice rumble when you put your foot in it. Picked up performance and mpg, but had my foot in it more so it was a wash.

6.0L Gas GM
or
6.0L PSD Ford

BIG difference.

Flowmaster for GM Gas
MBRP for Ford PSD

I have experience with both systems on different engines and like the results.

I just bought a few parts at murray's and made my own!

I put the complete 4" Banks system on my 05 and 07 PS Diesel .
It does make a definite change in performance . I can't say how much fuel you save put performance jumps for sure . I installed the turbo back set up . Re installed the cat. I think whats the point of freeing things up after the cat when you still have a restrictive 3" pipe coming out of the turbo .

I went cat back on my 5.3 Chevy. I didn't notice much of an improvement in mileage, but it sounds awesome. And if you don't go with stainless all the way, at least go with the stainless tips.

MBRP 1st Choice
Banks 2nd Choice

I don't know the 6.0 as well as the 7.3 though. Check anything before you purchase on www.thedieselstop.com . I don't know if you like the turbo whistle or not, but I LOVE it on a 6.0L PSD with big exhaust. If you go so far as to dump the cat, and go with a turbo-back exhaust, the truck has an awesome whistle/note. I've got a turbo back setup on 7.3L; (no cat originally) 4" all the way back to a single muffler, and split tips behind each rear wheel.

I've had 3 6.0 powerstrokes, and on the first one we did catback exhaust, no noticable incease in mpg, or performance and egt's stayed the same, on the last 2 I used full turbo back systems and noticed measurable power and mpg increases(as long as you kept your foot out of it) with a 200 degree decrease in egts which is the real measure on how well a system works.

Turbo back is a must for improvements, I did 4" turbo back Summit exhaust, I did not want to spend a ton on exhast with a 250,00 m iles truck that I drive all winter, they all pretty much perform the same, just some look nicer, I added the stainless 5" tip for looks, usually you will not notice much until it is chipped.

I love the sound...280,000 miles now and ran 15.1 so far overboosting map sensor...99 7.3... love my truck!

we recommend MBRP turbo back. Sounds great, cooler egts. The fitment is perfect as well. for installing these kits on trucks we have been through a few and the MBRP fits perfect never any trouble with pieces not fitting.
