Do I need these things??

I have an older barge (42' excalibur eagle) that has hand rails on the bow of the boat.
They still look great, but the problem is that they leak and of coarse cause problems.
Now that the boat is getting redone, I thought about removing them.
(as most new boat do not have them)
Or do I need them and there is a way for them not to leak?
If you go to the owners threads under Excalibur you can see the boat.
I will leave the back ones on as there is no interior to ruin.
What do you think?, and most of the time the boat will be in Havasu rather then the big blue.

Silicone on the base of the supports and in the bolt holes before you crank'm down should seal the leaks

I would get rid of them.

If you decide to keep them, use some 3M 4200 to seal the rails where they meet the hull. If the rails have studs use nyloc nuts and big washers under them. If they don't have studs, install studs with locktight.

They're useful if you need to go up there in rough water. And guys have been ticketed for being up there on a moving boat without them (topic of recent discussion).

The best way to seal them is from underneath- make a 1" button of silicone around and over the hardware that protrudes thru the deck.

I'd seal em and leave em. They look fine, and I've fallen off a few bows before in rough water......:ack2:

Move into the 90's and take'em off! :D

Please, I am only a small poor man, I am lucky to be in the 80's.:sifone:

"Bread, bread please,for the poor"

Yes, I was thinking the same thing, it would bring the boat into something.....
