The Official 2009 Daytona 500 Thread

And the penalty was imposed immediately
what penalty? guess I missed that..

Yes the car in front of the other can pick and choose his line, he does not have to wait to be passed and blocking is apart of Nascar racing especially at Plate races. No one ran Jr. below the line he over corrected and did it too himself.

His obvious lack of control and/or patience led to the wreck plain and simple...he had ample time to pull back up in line once he made his exaggerated move below the double yellow line and fall behind Vickers.

I and countless thousands agree he got pissed off when Vickers blocked him and then he made a bad move and decided to run into him, not once to show he didn't like the move but twice which ultimately caused the big wreck...
the overhead shot replay clearly showed what is stated above... JR did, in fact, intentionally ram the outside left rear corner of Vicker's, causing the wreck... at least that's what the overhead replay camera showed, as did JR's in-car camera... I believe the camera also shows Vicker's came down way in front of JR, ahead of time, and not restricting, or blocking JR in any way.... JR just flat didn't like that he whipped out and had no where to go but below the line... it could be said that JR did, in fact, advance his position as a result of the wreck that he intentionally caused due to his impatience.. that is what the OVERHEAD camera clearly showed on the replay... the front camera makes it appear as was stated elsewhere in another reply... not looking for a fight here, but that's what I saw, and what was RECORDED..

weaving back and forth......not all the drivers do it.....and if you do your an a-hole.

In Indy Car Racing weaving back and forth is strictly prohibited

I believe in Indy Car racing they are allowed to protect their position (see definition of blocking) one time, after that they can be black flagged...

I've been to many of IndyCar and Cart races in the past and blocking is nothing new or unique to Nascar, its done all of the time especially when fighting for the race lead.

The only difference is in Nascar your more than likely not going to ruin your front wing or ramp over the other cars tire like will happen in open wheel racing.

The typical outcomes and consequences most of the time are not as dire in Nascar. .

His wrecked car.

I find it funny that we can all look at the same thing and see it different.

The only clearly intentional thing I saw was a block. The second hit as Jr came back in line behind him was not clearly intentional to me. Jr was tucking back in behind him and misjudged by an inch or so. It initially turned Vickers to the infield, but Vickers over corrected and his commitment and insistence to block JR caused him to take out the field. Truth be told it all happened in a second and it is easy to second guess and impossible to say what was intentional about it once the block was initiated.

It was bad judgment by both of them. Vickers initiated it and Jr finished it.

I think there are many ways to wreck some one. Putting someone in the fence while under them in a turn is different then a block gone bad.

It is clear however, this is something where an agreement will never be found as to who is at fault.

Whenever I raced, blocking was when someone was behind you, not when they were alongside and you ran them so far off the track, you were over the yellow lines also............

Vickers ran Jr off the track, Jr was already alongside.

That in my mind is just plain wrong and is probable cause for a review for disqualification.....

weaving back and forth......not all the drivers do it.....and if you do your an a-hole................

Jr works the draft better than anyone out there, thats a fact even Gordon has said before. Truth is Blocking is for wanna-be bada$$ plate racers. Kyle Busch is a good driver but is also the worst Blocker out there. Vickers tries way to hard to run good at plate tracks and does dumb $hit all the time even when he has a good car. And if Jr would have "backed-off" he would have went straight to the back. And isnt the object of racing is to win? He would have had a shot once he got back on the lead lap- another fact. Haha- i love nascar

That's why , when Mosi Jr was growing up......I never let him watch Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Too much violence in Movies and Auto Racing.....

18 (16) Brian Vickers 0 I've been telling people all winter to expect big things from Red Bull Racing's No. 1 guy, and BV was well on his way to proving me right.

19 (13) Dale Earnhardt Jr. 0 Remember on "American Idol" when they would send the losers off to the song "You Had A Bad Day"? That's what they should have done to Little E after two pit-road violations and The Big One.

Power rankings mean next to nothing. Look at the points.

There is little sense in talking about the chase now. It is a long way off.

Next race will be here soon enough.:boxing_smiley:
