Miami boat show sales

I think it is GREAT for manufacturers in the US to export. I hate to see nice pieces leave, but the US needs to do more exporting of goods. We need to hit up the UAE, and other places where there is plenty of money. I am not opposed to teaching the Chinese how to drive a boat or two if it would bring $$$$ back to the US. The boating manufacturers need to insure that their products don't fall "sub par" and chase the money else where as well.

We all need to do our part to regain our economic power, and the pleasure boating market is no different.

UAE is getting close to being broke, oil supplies are about to run out and oil prices being down are'nt helping, Japans economy is at its lowest in 35 years, Europe is hurting bad.

Just so that everyone knows, I know for a fact that the XRT that Sunsation introduced in Miami was marketed and sold at the same MSRP compatible with their very popular SSR.

Jupiter was merely making a guess at what he thought it might have gone for. This is how a negative virus gets started in a thread. I won't let that happen here, guys. I know firsthand how hard Sunsation has worked at this project. They have made sure that their marketing and pricing is at an affordable and reasonable pricing scale, especially in regards to today's economic climate.

Trust me, the industry can't afford to have any negativity thrown at it at this time, especially from those of us who genuinely love this sport. I am so fortunate to be able to be so strongly associated with Sunsation and the people that I have come to trust and respect. Believe me, I have seen, met and worked with some of the worst that this industry has to offer. Sunsation does exactly what they profess in their slogan...they exceed my expectations.

Scott Shogren made a comment in a recent interview that I will always remember. He said that the way to success in this industry is to surround yourself with the best people. I am so fortunate to be able to be associated with these great people. This is why there will be some great survivors in this game when this economic crap is over. I see a light at the end of the tunnel, and I will defend these associates and friends to no end. We will be the survivors....trust me.

Let me tell you how I really feel.!!!!!!!!

All of the manufacturers that presented at Miami are doing the best that they can in these times. I applaud every one of them for sticking this out. I'm sorry that some were disappointed in their trip and what was able to be presented for them. I hope that you have a better experience in the future.

Fountain had a fighting chance, nice spread.
Baja was most improved in my opinion, they probably sold a few.
Donzi looked like crap, would be shocked if they sold a single boat.
Formula seemed to really lean on the cruiser market but nice spread.
Cig had some nice TnA.

I agree about the TnA:drool5:

Well said.

This is what I know and saw. I know Nor-Tech sold the new Roadster and Gold Rush. This was my first year down here so I don't have anything to compare it to. But I did see sold signs on boats. Different kinds of boats. Baja sold some, I think I saw some center consoles with sold on them. I just hope no one goes under because of the lack of sales here in Miami. I know MTI was packed constantly everytime I walked by there. Yachts....I can't say anything about them because honestly I don't know. Was only over there to take care of a 80 footer and a 43 footer for NT. Today was the last day....so we'll see what happens.

This is the best post I have read in a long time.

225K for a 32' boat with black motors???!!! Is it me or am I nuts that this seems insane when you are talking very late model 38 and in some cases 39 TSTG's with 525/575/600 power. Or how about the '07 42 Fountain discussed a few threads ago with 850's.

A friend fo mine just sold his '07 35 Fountain Lightning with 525's and a MYCO trailer WITH 9 HOURS for 150K.

Bill I was guessing new MSRP..... The last one Hideaway built was 200K with euro spec 496's and was a 32 SSR, no where as much "bling" as the XRT.....

Used boats are a totally different market and significantly discounted right now.

.

I was guessing MSRP based on what it is on the SSR which has quite a bit less bling.......The last 32 SSR Hideaway built was 200K. Everyone knows MSRP and what it actually costs the buyer can be very different.

The XRT as designed by Sunsation to offer something that is totally new to the industry without having to raise the price any significant amount. They have discussed the marketing on this very intensely, and realize that the market won't allow a significant price increase in this market today. Wayne spent an ungodly amount of time (as well as several very loyal employees) getting this project ready to be introduced in Miami. he designed it so that it would take a minimal amount of tooling to be able to accomplish this, while keeping the proven hull configuration intact.

The results were nothing short of phenomenal. Some have criticized the design, and that's ok. It's not designed for everyone. It was designed for the person that wants something totally different. And the response in Miami was extremely successful. I'm proud of this project.

MAN O MAN..There are some Impulse buyers out there.
This was not an educated boat buyer.

1. Why don't you level the playing field and be sure to tell the board you were fired by Sunsation so you might have a chip on your shoulder about their product.
2. While working the booth at Concept did you mention to any potential buyers that if their boat gets damaged while having warranty work at Concept not only can they expect extended litigation to recover for their losses but public beration by management/owners.
3. Remind the buyers of the strong dealer network that reorganizes monthly dumping lots of new/ no longer a dealer come and steal it inventory on the open market.

:lurk5:

I hear you Jup. I've been in the biz for 13 years. Been on my own boat since I was 9. I'm familar with the market.

New or "used" with a cpl hours has no impact on price, as many would agree here. I wasn't trying to cause any harm to Sunsation or any other mfg by posting that. But, like everyone else, I have an opinion. An educated one at that if I may.

I'm getting a little tired of everyone pulling the "oh don't hurt the industry we love" card lately whenever subjects like this come up regarding pricing. It is what it is. It's not opinion. They are black and white numbers.

Again, because I have so many people in the business I call close friends I'm not going to mention another word about todays market or prices. I just feel we are ignoring the 800lb gorilla in the corner and just because I bring it up doesn't mean I want the industry hurt.

I hope everyone had a great show.

I agree wholeheartedly with you, Dollabill.

This industry has really suffered some huge hits in the last couple of years. I've seen icons in this field turn into total criminals, and take down innocent associates that had no clue what what was coming. I can't believe the criminality that has been displayed. Then there are the unfortunate deaths and the debates over safety issues in the events. Senseless lawsuits, the list goes on and on.

One of my friends had a cute quote the other day. "How do you make a few friends in Offshore?.....start with a whole bunch of 'em."

Kinda says it all.

Was told the Miami show was critical for the future of Donzi. Thus I hope they sold product.
Thus the quality of the display.

I am willing to bet that if the only thing that will save Donzi is a big shiny booth or a few boat sales at the Miami boat show, they aren't gonna make it.

They better cut back (ie salaries, big shiny booths, etc.) like the rest of us if they want to save their sinking ship.

It sounds like they need to make some more affordable 26 foot and under out board boats to keep up with the changing demand.

I agree with you 100% Mitch! Thats why I am glad that I am flying the Sunsation flag at my house!
