Let’s get in shape

I really enjoy grilled Tuna, mixed steamed vegies, and a garden salad with fat free Italian dressing. But I am not sure howhealthy it is.

thats actually a very great meal! no wonder your losing so much weight!

i ate tuna tonight but i like mine raw and with a little avacodo and some cucumber...

tuna is damn near a perfect meat for any healthy diet...

I like it raw too, but it's better cooked very rare. IMO. But I also love a good steak. Tonight I had a rare ribeye. I try to trim the fat as best I can, but red meat is a weakness.

i know bro! i grew up on a cattle farm and im a red meat fanatic myself! BUT even tho that ribeye taste like heaven i would encourage you to by sirloin or NY strip. they are not as marbleized and are way easier to cut away excess fat. but if you are going to eat any steak try to stay away from any carbs with it! carbs are the transport system for all that fat to store in your body

Okay.....that makes since. I have learned alot from you the last couple days. It's really not that hard to eat healthier if you know how. I am really looking farward to reading the book you recomended. I ordered it yesterday. I am really tired of being a fat guy!

ive been doing this for a while now and i have loads of info stuffed in my brain for diets and exercise. i guess when you are around the stuff all day you absorb a little. but im not perfect by no means.

i started my new diet and exercise program on jan 1 this year too. i had taken off 6 months from any exercise and eating healthy and gained about 20 pounds of pure fat!

i weighed 233 pounds on jan 1 with 21.9%...
on sat i weighed 239 pounds and had 17.1% fat

but im trying to gain some of the muscle i had lost when i stopped working out. i had previously weighed 282 with 13% body fat so im having some issues being the "little guy"

What about alcohol. I have always been a beer drinker, and I am sure that has been a big part of my weight problems. I would not call myself a heavy drinker. Maybe one or two beers during the week, but in the summer when we are at the camper all the time a case a weekend is now problem! What should I be drinking when I want to drink?

OK! heres the skinny on alcohol... first alcohol has some very positive effects on the human body in moderation (studies have shown that alcohol in moderation can to actually repair damage to the human liver).

however heres the bad...

1g of alcohol = 7 calories

1g of protein = 4 calories,
1g of carb = 4 calories,
1g of fat = 9 calories

meaning that you are consuming empty calories no matter what you are drinking... also alcohol will metabolize into sugar in your body

whats worst in beer?? any of your full flavored beers are probably a good one to stay away from

what the best in beer?? best i have seen is MGD 64 with 64 calories. it has the lowest amount of empty calories of any beer ive seen next to Pabst Extra Light low alcohol @ 67 calories

chief is right about the sugary liquors STAY AWAY!!!

about the best liquor i would say would be vodka. vodka is easily mixed well with any low calorie drink and doesnt always have to be "sissy" i often finish a fine meal with a vodka and water...

although changing your drinking style can be a very good way to adjust into a healthier lifestyle. drinking excessively can have some very negative effects on many other aspects of your lifestyle.

the #1 one thing i truly encourage with drinking is to be responsible when you do...

I was shocked the other month when I looked up what was in the Baccardi coolers. They're 225 calories apiece! I stopped drinking those immediately. Mike's hard lemonade is less (98) calories a bottle. I've tried to switch pretty much completely to rum and coke zero.

Does anyone every use a site called CalorieKing.com? I've found it has a pretty good food database

A trick I learned a few years back-

Write down each and every thing you consume. It works in several ways. First, it makes you conscious of what you're eating. Second, sometimes it's just not worth it to have to drag out the list and write so you start skipping those nibbles you didn't need anyway. Lastly, it forces you to honestly confront just how much you're eating and face the cold, hard fact that some of it is really bad for you. Especially when you start adding it up day after day, week after week.

The most powerful anti-health force in existence is denial. Facing the facts is always step one.

Have U been hang'n w/ Richard Simmons there Bubba????????

Today I did my 30 min on the exercise bike before breakfast. I have to tell you, it was a difficult adjustment. My body was just not ready to exercise 10 min after I woke up. I have never been a person who has to have coffee of some other form of boost in the morning, but I was struggling to do what has become pretty easy for me this morning. I did get to bed a little late last night, and had a few drinks with dinner. This may have been a contributing factor to my dragging ass!

About breakfast. I have been eating 2 eggs scrambled seasoned with a small amount of salt, pepper and cheese along with 2 strips of beacon every morning. I know this is not a fat free breakfast by no means, but is that terrible? What are some breakfast ideas. I like a hot breakfast that is quick and easy.

By the time I eat all that diet food....

.....I have a hard time finishing my regular meals :(

AM exercise will jump-start you like you can't believe. But don't sabotage it by hitting the carbs right afterwards- even though the exercise unleashes those cravings. As far as breakfast, two strips of bacon is 50% of the daily amount of fat intake for an average person as well as too much sodium and other bad stuff. I love bacon- I crave bacon. But I eat it once a month. It's bad stuff.

Back to your AM workout- once you get into the swing, your desire for feeling good all morning will offset your desire to stay up late and have a few drinks and something bad to eat- most days anyway.

Hot, quick breakfast? Oatmeal. Add some fresh fruit.

And as a former caffeine addict, I can tell you that the faster you get away from it, the better you'll feel.

High glycemic Carbs are the enemy. Diet should be high in protein low in those types of carbs. Eat all the fibrous carbs veggies you want (broccoli, carrots, cauliflower, green beans, lettuce etc). Fat is also not necessarily bad. Saturated fat you want to stay away from, other fats are actually good for you. They are good sources of energy lots of good research on fat from fish Omega-3 being healthy.

You should eat 5-6 small meals a day. Two to three hours a part. This tells your body that it will be nourished and will speed up your metabolism. When you dont eat consistantly your metabolism slows and stores fat this is called starvation mode. You want to encourage your body to be efficient and use up the food not store fat. Dont eat at night unless your a very skinny body type (ectomorph Tony) and want to put on weight. I suggest not eating after 8:00pm.

A summo wrestler does not consume large quantities of unhealthy food it is there meal timing that makes them as fat as they are. THEY EAT ONE MEAL A DAY AT NIGHT. This puts there body in starvation mode slowing there metabolism and storing away fat.

In summary I like to call this the cave man diet eat like we did in the beginning lots of lean meat and veggies with some fruit. We are hunters we are supposed to eat meat. Cave men hunted for meat supplementing it some leaves and berries.
This is how body builders eat in contest shape they are down to 5% body fat. when training for size the only difference in there diet is they ad a little more carbs. Protein must stay consistent or your body will burn muscle for fuel. You need around 1g of protein per lbs of body weight that is why you need to eat lots of lean meats.

It is possible to eat more then you are now and lose weight. You must get your body into fat burning mode this is done with meal timing and exercise.

Reason you want to stay away from High glycemic carbs: Carbs are turned to glucose (sugar) in the blood. Your body then produces insulin to deal with the sugar. INSULIN PROMOTES FAT STORAGE.

This is great information and recomendations. I really have my mind around doing this right, and not only loosing weight but keeping it off. I have never educated myself on a healthy life style. It doesn't seem all that hard, but it's not that easy to change either!
