your adware/spyware flavour of the week

yeah, after 4yrs this computer is starting to slow down, it did it once before and a computer guy I know suggested AdAware and it cleaned it up and it was back to its old awesome self, now AdAware just helps, its not really doing the job. I have updated Norton that runs a scan every day, Im wondering what you guys are using

I still use adaware and have been happy with it.

I am not sure what the latest and greatest out right now is though.

One of the guys here who does it for a living runs Norton, but once a month or so disables Norton, downloads the latest version of AdAware and runs it, then removes it and downloads the latest Spybot and runs it, then removes it and enables Norton again.

He says nothing will catch them all. And some are actually partners with some of the spyware removal software companies.

I have been meaning to get some answers about this also. My computer says it has a "trojan" and when I download the thing from Nortons to fix it, it says it cannot find it. I found where it came from (2 albums I downloaded from a torrent) but it wont let me just delete the albums. I think it might be time to re format...

Doubtful you should ever have to reformat.

Try downloading Avast and running it.

And send a note to Nortons to see why they can't get it.

I don't know about that. My old pc picked up a rootkit, and all the advice I found online suggested a reformat. I tried everything I could to get rid of it, but nothing seemed to work. Plenty of s/w could detect it, but nothing could fix it.

My fix was to buy a Mac and toss the old pc in the trash. :sifone:

I have adaware and spywareblaster. Spywareblaster runs in the background and blocks the cookies before they can harm your computer. I used to have problems all the time until I downloaded these programs.

I bet that worked the very first try......:sifone:

AVG does good for me. Another thing....MAKE SURE that you dont have 2 or 3 spyware programs running at once. That will play havoc with your computer also. Pick one and use it. Disable all others. Dont forget that when you restart your computer the other spyware programs may restart also.

Sure did.

That was after going through Norton, AVG (free and paid), Spybot Search & Destroy, Malwarebytes Ant-Malware, and a host of other specialty tools.

Good riddance to all of 'em.

Yep. I only have one plus the firewalls.

But, have one on all the time you leave up. Then disable it, down load and run, then remove.

If you guy's would stay out of the porn sites you would'nt have any problems !!!:biggrinjester:Dave

antivir will should find it.

Some of the cookies you will have to manually delete. Have you done a defrag on it in the past couple months? it will put like files together so the comp doesnt have to work so hard to find things. also look at a few of the programs you may have that you dont use ever and delete them, they are taking up space and the comp searches through them.
