Which governor is next?

I liked when Jeb was our gov, and George W was the gov of Texas. It was like a sibling rivalry on who could fry the most bad guys. Neither one of them were afraid to use capital punishment.

Thanks to those brainiacs in Tallahassee, as of midnight last Monday, I no longer have a driver's license. It was never a matter if I could drive, just due to this brain tumor, I can't walk well.

F Charlie Christ!

I just got an email from Uncle Charlie's office.

Here's what I asked:

I noticed that somehow the State of Florida can afford to send my sister and a bunch of other teachers to London, and Paris on Florida State's dime. but I can't get any health care at all.

Anyone care to explain that to me?
She said today that a coke cost more "euros" than a glass of wine. I'm glad to know that the state has the money to send them over there to teach them that. A simple phone call would have sufficed.

Joe Griffith

Here was the non-answeranswer:

Dear Mr. Griffith:

Governor Crist received your e-mail and asked me to respond on his behalf.

I am not familiar with the Program you speak of in your e-mail. Please write again with more details and I will assist you in any way I can.

In regard to insurance, Governor Crist believes lack of health insurance is the greatest barrier to accessing health care. Governor Crist understands that it is challenging for individuals, families and business owners to afford health insurance and is committed to improving access to quality, affordable health care for all Floridians.
In Florida’s 2008 Legislative Session, Governor Crist proposed and the legislature passed Cover Florida, a comprehensive market-based strategy to address the uninsured in Florida. There are no mandates for participation and no tax dollars are required. Instead, Cover Florida partners with private insurance companies to create and competitively bid on robust, innovative health insurance products. These products will be designed to cost $150 per month or less, and will be available to all Floridians ages 19-64 who have been without insurance for at least 6 months. Certain exceptions apply for the 6-month exclusion.

On July 2, 2008, the state announced a competitive invitation to negotiate process for insurance companies to design a Cover Florida plan proposal in which benefits and premiums are specified. Upon completion of the competitive negotiation process, the State selected two statewide and four regional plans for inclusion in the Cover Florida program.

The selected insurance companies have designed Cover Florida plan proposals that provide an affordable, quality health insurance product for Florida’s uninsured citizens and maximize consumer choice. All approved carriers offer consumers at least two plans, one with catastrophic and hospital coverage, and one without. Each Cover Florida plan will include a robust set of benefits, including – at a minimum – coverage for preventive services, screenings, office visits, outpatient and inpatient surgery, urgent care, prescription drugs, durable medical equipment, and diabetic supplies.

The Cover Florida legislation also expands coverage options for children. The bill permits all Florida families to pay full premiums and "buy in" to the Florida KidCare Program. Current law had a 10 percent cap on enrollment for "full pay" families. The bill also requires insurance companies to offer families the option to keep children enrolled on the family policy up to age 30, so long as the child is unmarried and does not have any dependents of his or her own. Current law requires this option only up to age 25.

Finally, the legislation creates the Florida Health Choices Corporation - a centralized clearinghouse where small businesses with less than 50 employees may offer employees a chance to choose from a variety of new health care plans and services. These products will be available via website, and will be overseen by a Board of Directors, comprised of appointees of the Governor, President of the Senate and Speaker of the House.

Again, thank you for taking the time to share your views with Governor Charlie Crist. Your thoughts are very important to him.

Sincerely,

Rex T. Newman
