No recharging - just a myth.
The stretch feature of a Panasonic "Viera"(sp?) looks funny. The Panansonic TX (commercial line) looks much better. The LG's and Pioneers look good on "stretch mode" too. Samsungs look odd depending on the model.

From the experts in the business (Audio & myself) recommend (no order):
Panasonic commercial
Pioneer & Pioneer Elite
LG
I have been in the business for 34+ years. I have sold TV's since they were tubes. The above is what I would buy. Unless it is 60+" I would pay no attention to 1080p. It really doesn't matter. I also would NOT buy the entry level model from any MFG. They ALL cut corners on those to hit price points. Then you've bought something engineered to be cheap instead of look good.

Jon, you agree?

Yup. You are better off buying a quality 720 set over a middle of the road 1080 set. Then make sure your boxes are set to 720P not 1080i. The reason for this is that the resolution coming out of your cable box will match that of the TV and there will be less processing going on and that equals a better image. I just saw the new Planar 720 projector and it blew my mind how good it looked and how bright it was. We cross compaired it to a 1080P Runco (older model) and while the Runco looked better with the lights out the Planar still had a good picture with a lot of light in the room. This was on a 130" Scope screen (wider then the 16X9).

Rehashing an old thread as I've been shopping the last couple of days and will be buying soon. I'm getting a 42" plasma. I was set on getting a 720. I can get the same model, but in 1080 for about $25 more. MSRP was a $200 spread, I guess they are stuck with more of them than the 720's. Any reason not to buy the 1080?
