TRS to SSM3A

over the summer i purchased i complete speedmaster 3a package. drives, gimbals, tail shafts, rams, pumps etc. for my straight bottom top gun. the boat they are coming off is going to 6's. with only about a month left in my boating season. i'm thinking ahead.
i have a few of questions. first one.
do i need to fill the transom and start with new holes or can the trs holes be modified for the 3a's??
next question.
is it worth the extra money to put ext. boxies on while it's apart ? i would have to buy boxies did not come with package.
last question, for now anyways.
what would a good asking price for my trs package be ? i know it's what someone will pay. they are in great shape. maybe 150 hours since tnt/mel riggs rebuild. been run with 3 blade props most of the time. oil changed regularly. 1 gimbal rebuild last year. the other is in very good shape.

thankyou

If you can't get an answer, I've got a 3A boat and a TRS boat sitting side by side in the garage here. Come on down and measure anything you want.

I don't have any answers to your question, except I don't "think" you need to fill the transom for the 3A's.

You're going to love those drives...Have 'em on our Gun.

What power you running to them?

you can use the opening for the driveline, just needs to be opened up a lil bit. Going to have to drill new holes to mount them , Can fill the old ones up and resin cap them. Could go with the boxes, couldn't hurt it, just get adjustables. The boxes will make them sit deeper than if just hung off the back

The adjustable boxes you're talking about have how much adjustment? And who makes them?

Why do I seem to remember something about having to fill the lower portion of the hole???

Sorry I can't help more, never did one.

Good point about the boxes...I'd stay away from them on a straight bottom Gun....If you had #4 or #5's it'd be worth it but 3A's are already deep. buddy put some on a #6 gun and it dropped the drives into the water too far and f*cked the ride up (lots of porpoise).

Is your Gun notched?

i have 575's in it. i'm going to change the blower pulley / boost for now. maybe 600ish. when i put it back together. then next winter i'm going to build some 750's. one step at a time.
btw we have a wall at the cottage that is all cigarette/race boat pictures, and you made the wall. with the old checker board paint job.

The 3A's are rated to 850 (I think). You'll be fine with 750.

That's cool I made the wall! Snap a picture of the wall for me if you get a chance:sifone: Which picture was it? One of these? I'm surprised the one with the new graphics didn't make it!!

I've heard of 3A's living fine up at around 1000 HP too. They are certainly beefier than the 3's.

It actually looks a lot worse than it was...It's taken from a video and it's so quick when watching it at speed. I was trying to loosen the boat up for the helicopter....Mission accomplished. This was earlier in the run when I had it flying perfect.

Big project Todd. Pretty shure you'll be happy with it when your done. You better do some research before you do the box's. Might be some porpoise like they said. I have heard of some unhappy people that did it and didn't get it right. Really no big deal though you just run little more tab and scrub off a couple MPH and around 75 start bringing them back up and away you go. :driving:

You may want to talk to Dave Dahl aka DJD. He did this swap on his flat deck and can give you LOTS of info on the drive height.
