This is sad

Wonder what the speed of the cruiser with the camera is?

Yes- cop was flying and this is tragic. That being said- to me it appears as if the car the teens were in were trying to beat traffic and cut that corner quite quick? I mean- if the cop that was in the wreak wasn't even there; wouldn't the cop who had the dash cam have to apply brakes anyway? The teens cut him off to some extent IMHO.

We analyze around here; not saying right or wrong any where- more just tossing out for discussion.

You shouldn't have to judge 94mph when yeilding to make a left turn.

If that cop wasn't using proper procedures (lights/sirens), then he should be prosecuted. Those kids had no clue he was speeding like he was.

Someone said speed of the other cruiser was 74mph in a 45. At 45mph the kids would have had time to make the turn.

Cop needs to go away for a long time and I almost never say that about a cop.

Both me nephews are going into law enforcement. I should show them that clip and tell them never do anything stupid like this.

That happened close to where I live. It is the Boston Post Road US1 and in that town it is VERY dense with commercial retail stores...miles of it. They are all adjacent to each other and there's a driveway every 100 feet, traffic lights galore, signs everywhere and usually VERY congested traffic during the day, a huge mall, theatres, etc. At night it's still distracting. These kids would have no perspective of a car traveling at 94mph because the usual traffic is so slow. There isn't a person in this part of the state that would be looking out for a car traveling that fast on that road...no frickin way. They never had a chance and it's not even close to being their fault. Of all the roads to bomb around on THIS IS NOT THE ONE. Most people cringe when they have to go there for some reason. I respect our law enforcement officials but this is absolutely very very poor judgement. He'll have to pay the price.

The camera car was over 60 mph and accelerating when the crash car went by like he was standing still. I hate to say it but it looks like he saw his buddy and decided to do a fly-by. He was probably glancing at his pal to see if he took the bait (which he did since he accelerated) when the kid pulled out. Truly tragic over a little "car game".

Just to clarify- I'm far from justifying either officers actions.

The fast cop went through one intersection and is 1/2 way to reaching the next intersection where the wreak happened. Those look like average blocks so say 100 yards, so the cop was 50 yards away when they entered the intersection/started their turn? I have to think most could tell if a car is flying within that distance? If I couldn't tell if they were flying or not then I'd wait.

I am using wreak vs accident because I don't view this as an accident. I'm just pointing out that even if/with the cop being in the wrong I think the teens shouldn't have attempted the turn at that time in the first place..

Again- just conversation. I'm taking this as a conversational thread vs a condolences thread an apologize if offense it taken..

If the victims were intently watching the oncoming traffic and constantly assessing whats going on, then they might have avoided the tragic outcome. But thats a slim might.
