This Is One BIG ASS Engine!!

So I guess it's for real. At first it seemed, frankly, a bit quiet - could just be the sound quality of video though. Also I'm amazed that that belt drives all 12 superchargers. My initial impression was that 2 or 3 superchargers have rotors and the rest were just for show. I'd never seen that kind of dyno setup either. Oh well, shows you what I know about diesels.

detroit with no smoke....?

close the throttle blades, and no smoke, and no rpm change?

load the dyno, and no rpm change? and no smoke?

hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

Way too much shiny stuff on that thing to be a Detroit. Coat it with green paint and Rotella then stuff it into a dragline the size of a city block. Then it will be a real BIG Detroit. ;)

i think its all for looks i have a 12-71 in our tug so i,m wondering why the huge blower rube goldberg contraption on top. a blower off and emd or fairbanks opposed is over 3 feet long 2 would have worked and been lot simpler. these are 2 strokes the blower blows only air into the cylinder when the piston is at the bottom there are ports in the cylinder liner the fresh air blows the exaust out thru the 4 exaust valves in the head what works best to increase boost is a set of turbos blowing into the roots blowers you can crank the boost to the moon that way ! this is the orginal use for gm blowers as almost all 2 stroke diesels use them the first number is the number of cylinders the second is the cubic inch of each cylinder

you put into technical terms kind of what I was trying to say.

Ah-ha, another tug guy. I did that for many years in the Great lakes. Mostly EMD's and Detroits and some old Fairbanks stuff too.

rogue we just use ours for pleasure now i dont think many here can appreciate how different tug boat life is compaired to speed boats hardest thing to learn is docking and stopping with out crushing anything! i dont see this engine making over 1200hp all the blowers blow into a common plenum chamber and it looks like they are undriving them as the bottom pulley is small if this engine had a load on it you would not be able to see in the room the smoke would be thick and the engine would choke trying to get fresh air ! blowers only on a 2 stroke detroit are called naturals or na's add turbos and their called ta's
