Just got a call from the better half. Apparently, the neighbours at the cottage were heading to the island when they noticed a piece of the big blow up water play ground dealy granma and granpa bought for the kids. It was anchored out front on several barrels full of concrete so they knew it didn't just drift a mile up the lake. They grabbed it and towed it back to our place. What they found was a crappy pontoon boat with bicycles and water toys netc piled on the deck, motor running and pushing itself up against the shore line. They thouhgt that someone was perchance robbing the cottage so they backed off and called the cops. It was then that they noticed the would be thief who had cut the water play station loose. He was lying on the bottom in about 6 feet of water, dead.
Police id'd him as a 16 yr old youth on a stolen pontoon boat filled with stuff pilfered from the island cottages.
It would appear that when he cut the water toy loose, it took off and he either went overboard and couldn't swim or smacked his head while trying to steal it. End result, we have the water toy and he lost his life.
I guess greed will drive people to do stupid things.
Awaiting a formal police report and very thankful my and my bro in laws kids were not there to witness it all.
