Jeffrey Clark, 51, was paddling out near the jetty at the Ponce Inlet on Sunday afternoon when a shark nipped him on the shoulder.
Fortunately, the bite is minor.
Beach Patrol Captain Scott Peterson assures swimmers the attack was mistaken identity and that the shark was not hunting for people.
Clark's bite is Volusia County's sixth shark bite this year.
