Another Surprise?

A speed boat race is coming back to Fort Myers Beach in October.

Monday, April 8th 2019, 5:54 PM EDT by Meghan Bragg

Offshore Powerboat Racing will be back on the beach from October 10 to October 13. It's a national championship race where the season champion is crowned.

During the race, boats can speed up to 180 mph.

Organizers have already worked out the safety initiatives with the Coast Guard and the Lee County Sheriff's Office.

Roar Offshore who is bringing back the races said this race can bring up to 70,000 spectators and upwards to six million dollars in local shops.

The race is a five mile race and can be seen from anywhere along the beach.

Thursday, April 11, there will be a kick off parade where people can go and see the boats.
