EMPHASIS: 2024 Shootout Offshore Boat Race At Lake Of The Ozarks
Captain Jason N. Crites, commanding officer of Troop F, would like to inform boaters of an offshore boat race event. The race will take place on May 31, 2024 & June 1, 2024, at the 6.4-8.9-mile mark on Lake of the Ozarks. Powerboat testing will begin on May 31 at 8:30 a.m. and the event will start at 12 p.m. On June 1 the event will begin at 9 a.m. Boating traffic in the area will be restricted to no wake and idle speed. The no wake, idle speed restriction will be enforced approximately one half hour prior to testing on May 31, and one half hour prior to the event start time on June 1. The no wake, idle speed restriction will continue to be enforced up to one hour after the last race on each day.

Every attempt will be made to minimize inconvenience to boaters navigating near the race, but boaters should expect congestion in the area. Troopers, as well as event staff, will be located around the course and will assist boaters in locating the designated areas for spectator anchoring. Spectators wishing to anchor should anticipate needing enough anchor line for water depth in excess of 100 feet.

Captain Crites urges boaters to use heightened caution while exiting the area following the event due to conditions caused by the heavy boat traffic and to report ALL impaired operators to Troop F at 573-751-1000 or by dialing *55 on a cellular phone.

Watercraft operators must consider the effect their actions have on others: Share the waterway and use common sense, good judgment, and courtesy to ensure the safety of all. Life jackets save lives. Wear It!!

Based on today's qualifying, somebody has been working on their boat setup.

If you remember, in Cocoa, the Class 1 qualifying times were:
Defalco at 3:29:54

Then the next 3 over 5 seconds behind:
Morpheus at 3:35:82
Monster 3:35:91
Good Boy 3:36:12

In LOTO today it was:
Defalco 2:13:82
Monster 2:14:22
Good Boy 2:21:14

I think Monster has been doing their homework

The red flag negated the penalty for WHM forcing CR off the course. (That one is under protest).

It's under appeal that you can't do one without the other.

Also, missing a buoy is just 30 seconds or 1 lap, not disqualification.

And, by rule, the red flag and restart without counting the first 3/4 lap would negate it by rule if it was a missed buoy. That's why Rich forced the Reckless Driving, which by rule it is not negatable.

I have heard that all three boats that did not stop for the red flag received yellow cards.

I have not followed up yet to see if that is accurate, or a rumor like the others thrown around concerning the DQ.

I've read the appeal that will be going to the APBA's Offshore Race Committee on the DQ penalty for reckless driving.

It is well written and points out all of the rule book violations pertaining to the penalty. Now it is up to the 12 members of the ORC to vote on reversal or not.

Based on the evidence, in my opinion, it should be reversed.

The appeal was upheld, the Disqualification was overturned by, (I've heard), almost all of the Offshore Race Committee voting that the DQ was unwarranted.

So, Dirty Money is the winner of the LOTO race.

It's unfortunate that there was a DQ placed on them. Everyone I spoke with, and all of the evidence, said it was completely unjustitified. And, it took away the teams very first win since they started racing last year. There is nothing that can be done, ever, to replace the comraderie, pride, exhuberation, and celebration that comes from a very first win of an Offshore race. Especially after all that team has gone through with the stuffed and broken boat that had to be rushed, (and expensively), replaced, etc.

Congrats to Dirty Money! :hurray:

Some of their problems are just rookie learning issues. MCON went through those too.

This one was caused by two things. For some reason, they missed the first buoy. Yes, it was not there during testing, so they followed their testing route and missed it. But, every other boat did know about it and went the correct route. As Brit said, that's a first ever.

However, the penalty for missing a buoy is 30 seconds or 1 lap, depending on how much advantage cutting the pin gave you. That is what the Chief Referee was implementing, but then he was argued with by what is tecnically his boss I guess, and finally gave up and implemented the DQ, even though he did not want to and the rulebook said otherwise.

The rulebook also states that the Chief Referee is in charge at the event, and cannot be overruled. But, I guess he can be intimidated to a point that it's pretty much the same thing as an overrule.

So, it is a huge mess, people are thretening to leave the APBA and go race with OPA or drop out all together.

I think that if there is Karma, it should go against the guy who caused the entire issue.
