Charlie McCarthy of the Historic Offshore Race Boat Association was kind enough to make a donation to the site. He's provided us with two sealed copies of SEARACE by John Crouse. We're going to auction them off to the highest bidder. All funds go to the ongoing development of the seriousoffshore.com site, which was Charlie's intention.

PLUS- Charlie also included some absolutely awesome original 8X10 photographs from his historic racing archives. Each book will be packaged with several of these prints AND a pair of Key West '08 SeriousOffshore t-shirts, one short and one long sleeve.

The two highest bidders will receive the packages. We'll run this through the weekend so everyone gets a chance.

Never in the history of any motorsport, has anything like this book by John Crouse been written.

It is over 600 pages long, weighs more than 6 lbs and has the story about every offhsore race from 1904 to the late 80's. All the colorful characters are in there. Read about how the boat brands of today were started and who actually was there in the beginning.

A lot of people don't realize that John Crouse, in addition to being the author of this book and PR guy for the greats of the day......was also on the winning boat of Sam Griffith in one of his many Miami to Nassau victories.

John tells the story of clearing Government Cut in that race and breaking out into the ocean....the waves are big, it is raining and the wind is blowing hard.....Sam reaches up and pulls the wires out of the back of the VHF radio. John asks him why he did that....Sam replies...."If it gets much worse than this they might try to cancel the race...this way they can't reach us."

Like Brownie says....You can't make this stuff up.
