SBI Reshuffles The Superboat Unlimited Deck With Penalties

superboat was a pretty good race tho ,

I hope opa is ready to take over .
I think this is aunt bee,s and cousin ethyls last hurrah lol.

the super boat class and svl deserve a good org to run in.

I'm kind of thinking the same thing.

I guess it was because of the complete new crew after the dissolvement of the SBI team, but this was the worst run World's I've ever seen.

From the penalties to the Victory boats, when they were no where close to jumping the start,

Penalties
UAE3 AND UAE33 JUMPING START 2 MINUTES
64 CROWDING THE PACE BOAT 2 MINUTES

Damn jumpers!!!

to the lack of penalties on the SVL final when at least three boats were ahead of the pace boat when it went green, to the pace boat being in the middle of the course so some boats had to be on the outside of it when trying to start, to counting times as if the race was completed by boats a lap down, to allowing engines to be changed without complete reinspections, to allowing boats to run with little small numbers no where close to the mandatory size in the rules, etc.

I don't think they had a clue that orange smoke means 3 minutes until start:

SBI Rulebook
7. A 3 (three) Minutes to Start Signal (Orange Smoke) - Orange smoke will be displayed in view of the milling circles from pace boat #1 to signal that the course has been cleared and the start procedure will begin in about three minutes or more.
8. The Start –
a. The official pace boats will start all classes individually, or grouped as announced at the drivers’ meeting.
b. The pace boat shall drive a course closest to one side or the other of the chute.
c. After the 3 (three) minute orange smoke/flag period has expired and received official permission from Race Control, the pace boat will display the yellow flag, then rotate in position, and come on plane in the direction of the first leg of the course bringing the fleet on plane and in line for the start. The pace boat will pass in front of the fleet.
d. All race boats shall stay on the designated side of the pace boat.

In the race on day 2 that caused all the problems, from orange smoke first displayed, to display of the yellow flag, to the pace boat moving with the yellow flag up was a total, TOTAL, of less than 60 seconds. No wonder nobody got lined up and two boats were on the wrong side of the pace boat, and obviously the pace boat was not driving a course closest to one side of the course if there was room for two big cats between him and shore.

If you review the other races there were similar issues with the starts.

Thank God the racers put on a really good show, and busted their butts, in spite of the issues.

If I were the Victory teams I'd really be pissed.

And it really is too bad, this was a nice group of boats between the 4 main classes.

Hopefully the Victory team will not get a bad taste in their mouth and will continue to race in the US next season.

And here is another point of view.

For everyday of triumph there is 2, 3, maybe more days of disappointment. Its part of boat racing. One can only hope the days of disappointment don't include a big bill, a lot of work, or extended recovery time. I've come home with busted ribs, a few championships, ringing ears and great memories. I look back at the busted up ones as great until they weren't. I've been at the boot end of a penalty that wasn't in the book.

After many years I still savory every Key West memory. The good, the bad, and the others. I am lucky and grateful to have participated at all. The ones that sting and hurt the longest are the times I returned as runner up.

The entire time I watched the race the only thing I wished was I wish I was there participating.

yes participating was fun .

however the new crew is merely what was leftover after the latest coup,

I love the keywest races I hope they stay.
