Older Race Boats (daddy cool)

Are the older race boats too tired to race? I've been seriously talking to small sponsors and really considering stepping towards racing. I'm not interested in a step bottom boat, somethings straight bottom, and i dont have 100's of thousands to spend on a second "hobby/sport" boat

so if not daddy cool, whats out there, and are the older boats washed up

Specialized racing is running I think it is a 1988 Superboat. They are national champs 2 years in a row now. So if you pick the correct boat for the class that you want to run then even an old boat can run with the best of them.

its just a little weary to me, daddy cool is a 1973, making it a 36yr old boat, with a pretty long race history

i dont want to hit a swell and have the throttles on one half of the boat and the steering on the other half of the boat..... no longer attached

70's race boats wer built very heavy. There's a reason you don't see many from the 80's- the era of the light layups.

Nordskog's CAM just sold on Ebay for about $20 grand. You could have been very competitive in any race that isn't in a bay in that boat. Dry Martini is a restored showpiece. Last I heard it was a buck & a quarter.

damn, i thought i saw it not too long ago, maybe a yr when it was daddy cool for like 40k.

As far as old race boats, Dellatore won a world championship in Key West a couple years back in a 22 year-old Apache.

It's all in what you buy. A race boat is going to be wide open underneath. You need to look at all the stringers, bulkheads and tabbing and see what's there and what's been repaired.

dont want an F2 TS top gun, im pretty sure its the only one of the 4 built that yr that didnt roll or sink, which would mean i'd be swimmin! I did think about it though

It's a fast boat though you just have to drive the balls off it if you slip it will bite you!!!!!!

How much money do you have to spend there are alot of things out there for under 100k that you could have fun with!!!!!!

not sure on what i want spend yet, i'd like to be able to keep the Mystique i have now.. but i would consider finding a partner or biting the bullet if the right boat came about

i know ill need over 40k for anything worth a chit, but i definitly cant afford 100k, especially sinse im sure banks arent just tossing out loans on older race boats, meaning this will be more than likely a cash adventure

daddy cool / crazy greek is still in great shape and fast too, and it hit 90mph with 800's and had more to go.
