The cranes and the dry pits are not close by any means. If you guys are going may I suggest you invest in some rollerblades. The convention center is 33 blocks away from the inlet/commercial harbor. Have fun.

Unless the wet pits/cranes are in the bay but then race boats will not like the long idle to inlet and shallow water obstacles.

That’s a much better pic. Be forewarned that the bridge from wet pit are over to the island will be absolutely terrible in terms of traffic flow. If you come off the bridge and turn right, the main parking lot is large but also crowded. If you manage to fine parking there, you can then walk onto the inlet jetty for pics of boats coming and going from race course. Heavy wave action there. Keeping cameras dry will be challenging. Crab Alley restaurant on the wet pit side is pretty good eats. 9703 Golf Course Road. :bump:

Parking and jetty are circled in blue. Parking on the streets of Ocean City is mostly parallel and non existent. Have fun. Don’t forget to get some Thrashers French fries and Dumsers ice cream. Check with Jim for more tips. :sifone: Don’t forget that if sunny out that sand on the beach is some of the hottest temps I’ve ever experienced.

33 Boats Registered

Biggest Classes appear to be Mod V, Super Cat, 450 Stock, and Class 7.

No Super Stocks, (Stock 300), boats here at all. Surprising that somebody did not break ranks due to the double points.

Sweet new Mod V

Myrick and Johnny went out doing some testing with MCON. When they came back in, and the oil was reviewed, aluminum shavings were discovered. So, out it cam, (on the ground), and the replacement was being prepped before putting in the boat. The thought is maybe the aluminum came from the oil pump.

Just barely into the race, they caught some wave action and wind action wrong. The bow bounced, it landed with the port side high, then stuck the starboard bow in which hooked the boat to port. Then it rolled and landed upright.

During all that, the top escape hatch was ripped off the boat, along with the starboard motor being ripped off the boat, and the tiebar went along for the ride.

Divers found the motor after a couple hours of looking. And the hatch was also recovered.

When reviewing the hatch situation with the team, it was discovered that the hinges on the hatch were aluminum. When comparing that to the other two Doug Wrights, it was a totally different setup, they have two custom hinges machined out of stainless with titanium pins. The other discovery, it was a single latch pin hatch, as were the other DW's. But, that single hatch latch was 2 inches wide. It appeared to me that the only weak areas on the other two, there needed to be backing plates on the hinges inside the boat, and the latch needed a stainless or titanium rub plate. But:

I think the Gladiator is going to make the stainless hinges, and also use a 4 pin hatch latch like Skater does.

If they had not landed right-side up, the water in the cockpit would have been a major issue.

That being said, there were some other changes in the 450 Class.

In the Red DW, it was driven by Mike Falco and throttled by Billy Moore. And, it won the race. The Montlick boat was driven by its usual Logan Adan, but throttled by Gary Ballough. After the restart, because of the crash by Gladiator, and something went wrong with one of the engines on Hanks Saloon so it stayed barely on plane throughout the race, it was a two boat race between those two up until the last couple laps.

And there were no MTI's there because of Taylors wedding reception at LOTO. Although they had considered sending the boats up and running without a couple of the normal people in the boats due to the reception, there was an issue at the LOTO race that made them decide not to. That was unfortunate to put it mildly.
