Latham Marine has built its 37-year success story by creating what its customers and the market need, and at the 2010 Miami International Boat Show, Latham is holding fast to tradition. From its custom high-speed rudder to a new front-mount steering system for outboards, Latham Marine has something practical, innovative and of top-notch quality for every aspect of powerboating at its new and bigger booth, # H-80.

Front-mounted Steering System

Based on the popularity and success of its side-mounted steering for high-powered outboard engines, Latham saw the need for a more affordable, front-mounted steering system, made for mid-range speed engines. The lighter weight, aluminum system is budget-minded and easy to maintain and like all Latham products, it is reliable, strong and backed by Latham's unequaled customer service.

Full-power, On-demand Steering Pump

The front-mount steering system is coupled to an electric-over-hydraulic full-power steering pump. The system delivers variable "on-demand" power to the steering pumps based on the range of turn and speed on the wheel. This is the first Latham system to adjust to the turn of the wheel, thus conserving power and noise for boaters who are conscious of both.

When the boat power is turned on, the pump remains inactive. When the steering wheel is turned, the pump system kicks into low speed and adjusts flow and pressure as the steering needs of the boat increase.

"We believe that this pump is the perfect complement to the new front-mounted steering system," says Bob Latham, the master behind each new Latham creation, "We are working to create more affordable, very quiet, practical systems, not just for performance boats and racers, but for the average boater who just wants the best for his boat."

Trim Tab Display

Latham Marine will also have a new display for an array of its trim tabs-which include Latham's stainless steel trim cylinders--all specially developed to match various applications for any size and powered boats.

Hydraulic Lift

Latham Marine's focus on the high-performance market has changed over the years to include the fishing, center console and sport yacht markets. For those uses, Latham developed its new hydraulic lift with no external lines to become tangled or corroded. The new, heavy-duty, anti-corrosion system can be adapted to a variety of applications. Latham has provided Thunderbird with lifts for its boats for years and recently created a new hydraulic lift, appropriate for a variety of sport yachts.

Shock Mitigating Seat

The US and foreign military and security services have been at the top of Latham Marine's client list for many years. Latham has developed its overseas market, based on its relationship with racing and performance enthusiasts; that international appeal naturally progressed to the military market because of its emphasis on strength and reliability. A shock-mitigating seat is just one of the needs of military marine units, but it is also an important feature for any race or pleasure boater.

Latham Marine developed several versions which incorporates a gas shock into the construction. The seat will move approximately 4" forward and aft, at variable positions before locking in place. This system provides a safe and comfortable range of seat positions, from a standing bolster to a full seat.

Outboard Steering

Latham Marine's steering system for the Yamaha 350 outboard was followed last year by the tie-bar system for the Mercury Verado engines. Both will be on display in the Latham Marine booth, H-80, as well as a full array of related Latham parts.

Latham Marine Elsewhere at the Miami International Boat Show

A number of manufacturers will have Latham steering and parts on their boats at the Miami International Boat Show, most notably, Cigarette Racing Team, the Copeland Racing boat, Phenomenon and various Mystic powerboats.

Latham's latest hydraulic platform lift was a custom swim platform lift developed for the new Cigarette Racing Team's 49' Grand Sport II. Cigarette also used Latham Marine's outboard tie-bar system on the new Top Fish Open with four Mercury 350 hp Verados. (see both at the Cigarette booth, B-23 in the Miami Beach Convention Center.)

Al Copeland, Jr.'s one-of-a-kind catamaran, built to break the world propeller speed record-a tribute to his father's wishes, will sport Latham's customized performance rudder and also the totally new steering controls for the quad-engine boat. Latham created a way for the multiple throttle cables to be combined for ease of operation. (The Copeland Racing Team boat will be on display on the patio outside the Miami Beach Convention Center #3360.)

Mystic Powerboats built a reputation on its racing catamarans but is also known for its top-quality custom and production V-bottoms. John Cosker, President is a strong proponent of Latham steering systems and rudders for his top-performance boats. (The Cintron race boat will be seen at booth #3351 on the patio at the Miami Boat Show.)

POW Dragster will be on display at the Latham Marine booth along with all the newest and most popular Latham parts. The 1955 BelAire race car is a tribute to the US Military and to Viet Nam Veterans as 3,578 names of those POW and MIA servicemen are hand-painted on the car. Come and meet Max Loffgren, who created the car and the non-profit organization www.neverforgotteninc.org. Latham is proud to be Made in the USA and proud of its military!
